30 Days of profit ~ Personal Journal / please don't comment

Stardate -317672.53 (yes, that's actually accurate, I didn't make it up!)

I read in a book about a method; curiousity peaked, and so I tried it out. I had forward tested in MT4 by pressing F12 until my F12 key almost broke, and had very very good results; almost 100% as far as calling the trend direction as well as the trend break as well as "intelligable" points to set stops.

So I have set out to try to be profitable 30 days in a row. I have tried doing so observing 9 pairs; on the 1H charts.

I had started to trade, looking at 9 pairs. In the beginning, I looked at 5 of them in the 1H timeframe, and experimented with 4 of them in the 4H timeframe.

Those which I used the 4H timeframes all hit my stops quickly, and that became my first lesson of something I knew already, but was brought into crystal clarity..

1) The longer the timeframes, the deeper the stops need to be.

As I pondered upon that, another lesson was learned.

2) The longer the timeframe, the slower the reaction. So on reversals, the longer timeframes are in fact, the last to know.

This however, spits in the face of everything that I have learned: if I'm looking at a 1H,4H, and Daily chart; then the Daily should take precedence. WRONG. If there is a reversal, it begins at the 1H, not the Daily. The smaller the timeframe, the faster the reaction. So perhaps we have been doing it wrong; do we not want to go with the short term charts? I would think so..

I was staring at a -137 pip loss by half day.. The fellowship of the ring was broken; Frodo looked lost... Mordor looked to be taken over...

BUT!!! Look to the eastern light of the first of the day!!

I battled back, and with a great ratio of 3:1 P/L, I ended the day, up 20 pips. An incredible battle, pulling out 160 pips in the end..

Day one was brutal, I went to bed, pondering the events of today, and preparing myself mentally for the next day...

End of Day Results: +21 pips

Today, was difficult. What should have been realized profits, were killed by an oversight..

I had thought I entered 1 lot, but the system was set to 0.5 lots. I only caught this after 50% of the trades were entered. Only a total of 6 trades; but 2 of the "very profitable" ones were entered at only 0.5 lots. That screwed up the $$$ quite a bit.

Pip wise, the battle was won on almost all fronts.

Directionality, I correctly went with the trend in all 6 trades. 2 however, ended in a loss, due to a very tight stoploss and perhaps the broker doing some stop-clearing. Otherwise, the direction was correct. This taught me lesson three;

3) Give the trade room to breath.

I had a dinner appointment, and so I went to dinner. As Larry Williams said, sitting and closing your eyes (and your software!!) is the way most money is made...

I came home to a happy surprise..

+ 160 pips was the high, but overnight, all the trailing stops were hit, so gave back about 80 pips.. No big deal, ended the day with +90 pips.

This morning, the market just went limp.

I'm currently in 3 positions as I write this, but they are limped in, with +-5 pip floating for the past 2 hours..

I have an appointment this afternoon, so I cannot babysit "my children" as they say in poker; and I shall just have to leave the trailing stop application running, and let that be it..

All my positions are at breakeven right now, which is a good sign.

I think one of the things that POP (Phantom of the Pits) had said was, if you are going to make money, it will be done fast. If not, get out. I now understand what he means..

Also, my recovery from the first day, was possible due to cutting my losses. I dropped the bad ones like 4th period french! I cut my losses and let me profits run, why my Reward:Loss ratio is so good.

3:1 is excellent, and that's what has kept me profitable for 2 days..

We shall see how things go by tonight...

The broker (StrategyBuilder) is ripping me off. Good thing it's a demo account!! It says that it hit my stop and stopped me out; BUT... the high is more than 6 pips away from my stop!! WTF??

I had a long meeting that lasted all day, and so before I left the house, all my trades got stopped out! gr...

So when I returned tonight.. I thought.. wow, is my stupid streak going to end at two days??

Stupid brokers.. trying to kill me..

But I told myself..

Should be ending the day with like +12 or so, an incredible comeback once again from the jaws of defeat.. We shall see in the morning...

Captain's log, stardate -317695.15...

My previous battle, turned out to be one of mistaken bid/ask identity. There was one stop that got cleared because of "foul play" by the broker, and another one, was the bid/ask, I looked at the wrong one..

So Day 3 actually ended with -3 pips.. So technically, I should consider Day Three the end of my little journal.. But who am I to argue about 3 pips?? On with the journey!!

I realize, what I needed was Seven of Nine, at Astrometrics, navigating the Forex star charts for me..

I had "Monday morning syndrome" in which I sold instead of bought, a scary boo-boo, and I was correct in the direction, which meant I got stopped out for a 22 pip loss.. OUCH, that should be a gain! That means I'm gonna need to make that up, and then some, so a 44 pip switch is in order, for me to feel a little bit vindicated about my earlier stupidity...

A quick check.. shows I'm up about 88 pips.. Which is good news. I hope to end the evening with more than 100 pips, but only time will tell..

Look who's in the black on all 8 pairs today!!! Hmm.. a few did a flippy-flip on me, but doesn't matter, it's a war, not a battle..

This however, makes me ponder about "locking in profits.."

I have discovered however, that the Pascal's Triangle is the perfect "Averaging Up" mechanism..

But first, I gotta get this ship steady before I can even begin to think about averaging up..

I took a big hit on the Cable when I woke up, that sucked the life out of today's trade.. <sigh> I have to start looking at the 4H, as I give too much back on the 1H charts.. I gave 32 pips back to the GBP, pulling my net results to a unimpressive low..

I will be moving everything to the 4H timeframe today; that means BIG stops and insane swings.

I also have a full day's errands to run, so I will be placing my orders, and then the computer will be off for 10 hours.. Hey, that's only 2.5 bars right?

I came back and I was down 52 pips. OUCH.. Quite a few of them stopped out on me.. defining "trends" and when things break a trend and then reintegrate into the collective; is not as easy as I first thought..

I'm fighting back, if one of my take profits hits, then I'll breakeven, if two hit, then I'll be in the black..

I'm looking however, to start doing something like 30 pip stop, 90 pip take profit, so I can do a 3:1...

2:1 is lofty, and if I'm with a trend, I'm at better than 50% chance.. and I can pretty much then, bet Kelly (well, I'm not that insane, I'll probably bet Optimized Risk Kelly, which is Slope=0.5 instead of slope=0 on the kelly formula) That said, I'd love to get away with 3:1 though.

A few of the stops got hit, BY ONE PIP. So either I'm placing them where everybody else is (which might be the case) or else my broker is pip hunting (which is probably the case also). Each mutually exclusive of each other..

There was one which missed my take profit by ONE PIP. Again, this is why I think software is stupid.. Missed by one pip and then it shrunk like a sweater in the dryer.. ug..

It's 2am, what am I doing still up?? Life of a Forexer is ugly..

Well, 2 of my takeprofits hit, so I'm at least +17 today, with more to come. I'll find out tomorrow morning!!

I realized that the trailing stop was the one that was killing my trades, it didn't give it enough room to breath. So I stopped with the trailing stops, and now, life is a little brighter..

I had started the day out with -55 pips, and thought it'd be impossible to battle back. But I did!!

End of Day Results: +17 with another +38 unrealized..


... and I woke up this morning, and my +38 was just that, unrealized. One of them reversed on me, and stopped out. OUCH. I think the system is fine, it's what to do about it when you are asleep, that's the problem!!

I have been over 95% accurate on prediction of Trend direction.. YET, despite being right, I'm unable to haul in the pips.

So thus, I am at a brick wall against the fundamental problem. You know the future, so what? That in no way guarantees profit.

So I have terminated this little exercise; and will be going to Tibet to seek more enlightenment..

(Just kidding about the Tibet part, but serious about the termination of this project part..)

I have embarked on a newer project.. one that goes against everything everybody in FF stands for (so it should work right??)

I am using a multi-phasic tachyon burst to see if I can pull in the pips..

I'm not just trading the secret sauce, I'm trading the extra spicy Habaneros peppers now..
