Hi,
I've searched for an 'upgrade' as I recently found that almost all Renko indicators recalculate. I use Renko.

The solution is to anchor it in time (set a start date) but i do not know how.

I considered paid options but none release the source code. I get why but at the same time trust has to work both ways, I don't know whats inside the exe so having the MQ4 is important.

Can anyone help in anyway.
I use the attached live ea renko builder. This is a good renko builder but suffers from the above problem, its an openly available EA
"EA VERSION
//| RenkoLiveChart_v3.3.mq4
//| Inspired from Renko script by "e4" (renko_live_scr.mq4)
//| Copyleft 2009 LastViking"

If anyone can help I would be really grateful.
PG

Familiar with this (been using Renko for years now), I once had this same intention. You do realize that your starting point, whatever it is, fixed or not, is completely random and determines how your entire chart looks, right? So...what valid starting point could you possibly want to use? I once had the idea to solve this by calculating the Renko bars backward (for the only really fixed point is the last known price), but this involved quite some rewriting and of course comes with the inconvenience that your chart gets rewritten...all of the time

So I dropped it. Since all starting points are equally "(in)valid" and completely random, imo it is of no use. The positive side effect is, that strategies and indies get challenged more than once when the chart changes. Which, really, is a positive effect.

why is a user starting point invalid.?

I simply want to see the same past chart each time I open my platform so at the end of the week I can wrap up safe in the knowledge what I saw (my setup) on say Tuesday and opened as a trade is what I am reviewing on the friday to see if I made a mistake or could have done better.

You are saying it is not possible ?

Then I guess the solution is to take a picture every day and ignore historical data because for me the problem means a valid entry on Tuesday is then not visible the next (or later) days. Its how I identified the problem.

PITA but thanks anyway, I hate these quirks.

Hi pgtips, sorry for the confusion. I was reasoning from my own findings, not noticing that you just might need something like that in your own process. I just meant to say that there is no intrinsic value in a given starting point, so one might as well not have it. That was all. But now I see your purpose is something else. Of course it can be done! I intend to give it a look when I get home later on.

Optimism, sure, but reality is hard... I just tried the most simple approach I could come up with. Which should work, but MT4 can be tricky.
A date/time can be entered in the settings, and the chart is limited to start at this bar, but...

Please look at this version, it is a start. I have no time over the weekend, but will look into it later on, and hopefully there is a better programmer than me who can explain the funny tail of bars at the utmost left side (that appear before the date/time that is entered, but with different rates).

There is always a challenge

Thank you flofri.

I have loaded the EA . If the line you added solves the recalculation problem I will be over the moon, anything before the start date is not important.

unless its pointing to a bigger problem somewhere else. I just set mine to Oct 2017 and will never see them.

The main thing is the chart will (hopefully) remain static and what I see each day will remain and be the same at the end of the week.

Thank you very much

Nice, I have tested this yestereday and today a few times, and the charts were the same every time. This means that the first 60 bars or so are unusable, which still needs investigating, but is not a major issue.
