Welcome everybody!

I have decided to start a simple journal of trades to help me analyze and record my trades. I have an extremely busy schedule (thanks to my day job) and although I’ve successfully used Phillip Nel’s 4hr strategy on EU and GU charts, I tend to miss the London open due to work commitments.Phillip has greatly influenced my trading and this thread is ,in a small way, my way of giving back to the fine traders that post on his thread. The system I use, apart from Phillip's) is something I've been using since 2001,although I've refined it many times since then as I've been influenced by the ideas and input of other traders with proven success. I’ve since gravitated to the daily time-frame. I will be posting each live trade. If I miss a live trade posting, I’ll post a screenshot of the trade execution as proof or confirmation. Please note that these are not to be taken as signals or trade recommendations. Once the success (or even failure) of this system has been established by this journal, I’ll consider starting a thread revealing the system itself. Of the 4 currency pairs and two commodity charts I trade, this system has achieved an 86,61% success rate out of exactly 952 trades backtesting from December 2004.That’s 825 wins +127 losses = 952 trades in total.

Hope everyone gets something out of this.

Short Cable @ 1.9605 on daily chart according to Phillip's Macd strategy. TP 1=1.9385 (low @22-1-08). TP2=1.9335 (low @7-2-08).SL=1.9976 (89MA).
Will only pull the trigger on Monday's opening IF the MACD confirms a Trend Continuation signal.
Please bear in mind, that I'm not implying that I'm an expert on the MACD system...yet! My limited knowledge has served me well thus far, though.

The fact that a very experienced and successful trader also sees a possible short trade on GBPUSD Daily gives my possible GU short credence.Still waiting on Monday opening like a kid on Christmas Eve.
Just my thoughts...

the thread is too much for me,
and I am really glad to see your journal on trading daily chart!

Hi dhalsim.
I usually get 1-4 trading opportunities per month trading Phillip's MACD system on the Daily Charts of EURUSD and GBPUSD.we all know that Phillip is a wonderfully kind gentleman who was willing to share a successful system with the rest of us. I will primarily focus this thread on a system I've developed since 2001. I've never really kept records of my trades with my own system. If it proves successful and the records of it are kept properly (by me) on this thread, then I will share the system with all the traders on FF.Having said that ,whenever a high probability MACD trade presents itself on the Dailies of EU or GU, I'll post it on this thread and Phillip's.
My system, in a nutshell, incorporates the following:
•respecting the trend, although I’m not averse to counter-trend trades
•price action
•looking out for retracements
•candlestick emotion
•I trade the EURUSD Daily, GBPUSD Daily, USDCHF Daily, USDJPY Daily as well as Silver Daily and Silver 4hr using my system on North Finance and Water House Capital MT4 Charts (they offer Silver charts), although I use a completely different Spread Trading Platform to execute my trades.
•On occasion I’ll revert back to my breakout trading ‘strategy’. A throwback from the days I only traded Gold and Silver Futures and Spreads. This was a breakout system that depended on the sudden increase of volume brought about each day when COMEX opens.
•I use 5 indicators. 3 EMA’s, MACD (a-la Phillip Nel) and Bands. These indicators are basically only used to confirm price action. Please understand that I will only be posting the details of this system once its success rate has been established through this journal.

The people that I’ve learnt the most from on ForexFactory and that I’d like to thank from the bottom of my heart are:
1) Phillip Nel (4hr MACD Strategy). The time and effort that Phillip puts into helping others is truly admirable. I’ve honestly learnt a heck of a lot (and I’m still learning) from Phillip. I don’t contribute to his thread as much as I’d like to, but then Palmer, Pips4uandme, Tamkras, Shreem, Golfer ,Old Dog, Nadia and others are doing sterling work in helping Phillip.
2) Kevin Harvell {kharvell} (I’ve found Kevin's earlier studies on Bollinger Band-type trading very informative)
3) Jacko (Trend-following in the age-old tradition) His KEEP IT SIMPLE identification of the trend is incredible in its simplicity. His anti-hedging strategy has opened my eyes to a few things about the trending nature of the fx market as well.

Others whose input I’ve enjoyed include Vynner, Mouteki, TomDeMark , Daemian, Alcastro, Fiji,to add to the input from a host of commodity (gold and silver mostly) traders I’ve been keeping in touch with for the last 7 years. I don’t think they post on this forum though.
One lady that I can’t leave out either is Lever 70{Felicia} (Cornflower strategy). I hope Felicia forgave me for my stupidity last year. Still can’t believe I posted those stupid comments on her thread. Being the generous, sharing lady that she is, I’m sure she has. Her free e-book is a great read as well.

Hopefully starting this thread will me focus more w.r.t. my trading and also force me to keep a record of it.
Time will tell.

Couldn't wake up for Trade#1 when new candle opened. The trade is still good to go,although the MACD didn't quite show a Trend Continuation Pattern on the Water House Capital Chart when the candle closed according to the 4hr MACD method. The Interbank Chart does show a TC signal.
I left the trade and am currently -33 pips.

I always seem to decide to lock in some profits.Sometimes it works in my favour, most times I leave a lot of pips on the table. My initial Take Profits looked like this: TP 1=1.9385 (low @22-1-08). TP2=1.9335 (low @7-2-08).SL=1.9976 (89MA).

Good thing I started this journal. Now I can gather enough data eventually to determine whether I have to:
a) set it and forget it, or
b) intervene as I am now and lock in some pips.

Any thoughts anyone?

Looking to lower time-frames in case there's an opportunity to add to my positions.Long bear candle forming on Cable 4hr, so there's bound to be a retracement giving another trading opportunity.Let's wait and see. Problem is I normally don't have time on my hands to watch the screen as I have today, so if it doesn't present itself today, I'll more than likely miss it.

EURUSD Daily:If EU daily candle closes at or below 1.4621 according to my strategy, I'll be shorting EU. I'll give it a miss if it doesn't.
USDJPY Daily: Missed out on my strategy's Long signal for UJ on 13-02-2008. (Valentine fever?!) I think UJ is going further up, but it's probability doesn't appeal to me as yet. Will wait for a good signal.
USDCHF Daily If USDCHF closes above 1.0995 today I'm going long. This will be my first Swissy trade this month.
GBPUSD Daily: Still in the short trade that showed itself on Friday night.+_90 pips in profit.
Silver Daily: Nothing showing itself on Silver Daily
Silver 4hr: Nothing showing itself on Silver 4hr as yet.
GBPUSD 4hr: Definite short, BUT the size of the last bear maribozu candle is telling me to wait for a possible retracement and hence a better entry. This is the add-on I was referring to earlier.

Remember, this is a journal of my trades, not a signal service. Any trades traded as I post them are taken at your own risk.

Taking into consideration the holiday today in the US (and the fact that I'll never turn a 100 pips into a breakeven or lost trade), I've locked in both lots at 100 pips each!!Currently the GBPUSD short (2 lots) is +124 pips in profit! A nice start to the week!

Too scared too look.
MASSIVE bearish Maribozu forming on USDCHF Daily and actually engulfing the bullish maribozu formed yesterday.Going to ride it out and trust the signal.
