Use of lower time frames to confirm entry

Who here uses a lower time frame to confirm entry on a trade?

For example, if your system on a 4hr chart says to buy, do you look at the 1hr chart for a buy confirmation before making the trade?

If your 4hr/1hr buy signals do not match, do you wait until they do before placing the trade or do you nix the trade altogether until you get another signal (at the upper time frame) and then check for confirmation again?

Thanks.

I do often.

You can sometimes see the stronger support/resistence points on lower time frames. i.e. What price acted as a brick wall the most etc.

Another example:

...If I'm entering at a support/resistance pivot or fib ratio I like screwing down to the lower time frames to see what's happening, watching for rejects etc.

Other than that. Going the opposite way and going to a Larger time frame gives a better perspective.

Keeping away from the smaller time frames can reduce the stress the rest of the time for me though. ...Too many ups and downs.

Just to add to that.

The 4 hour charts quite often hide double tops/bottoms etc.

Hi Jason
Like most new traders I started out on 5min & 15min charts, and even after reading the warnings from James, Dial and the rest on the board, I found it hard to break the habit.
I have now moved to monitoring the weekly and daily charts and, as I try and find a method that suits me, I always head back to the lower time frames looking for entries, and also for stop loss positions.
As was said in the first reply it is easier to spot other price action clues for problem areas, and I couple these signs with Pivots, Support and Resistance areas to plan entries.
As I am trying to avoid placing market orders, and trying to use trailing/leading entries I find I'm getting more winning trades, I suppose it gives me more analysis time.
Good trading
Peter

Wow!
Thanks for sharing that.
I didn't know that, neither have I ever heard anyone say that before.
I will keep looking into it.
