Strategy Tester Question - Please Help!

I have just run a backtest of one of my strategies. I have then saved the MQL4 code under a different name in MetaEditor in order to use it a starting point to further develop the code.

However, before making any further changes to the code I have run it again (under the new name) and I get different results in Strategy Tester!!! The code has not been changed and the Expert properties, Symbol, Model type, and date range have not been changed.

Any ideas what is going on?

If I then run a back test on the code saved under the original name the results are the same as when I first run it under that name.

If the code is the same, then the Expert Properties must be different

Nope exactly the same !!!!!! I went through every option and checked them to make sure they were the same.

I have now just managed to fix the problem but I don't know what the underlying issue is. I had to restart MT4 / PC. The results are now the same.

My first reaction is that this release of MT4 (build 950) has some bugs but based on a google search no one else seems to be experiencing anything similar.

next time that happens look at the results table and see the start dates of the trades between A and B...

a restart many times will fix it IF everything is exactly the same...

if it continues...off and on, and you've verified everything is the same...you may be using an indicator that is repainting...in which case you will have inexplicable and frustrating problems until you make the indicator non repainting...

I had similar issues with 2 different mods of the the same indi I thought I had recoded properly...after much testing and analysis one version of the indi provided vastly inconsistent entries forward testing while the other version had consistent entries...check your indi/algo.

saving under a different name creates a different testing log/testing history...all things being equal everything should be equal...but not if a used indi repaints.
