Great news in the winds - I have heard through some contacts that Ninjatrader is seriously considering adding Foreign FX clearing to their mix. This way they could allow US traders to trade non US based rules. This is not an option when you trade through FXCM/NT - UUGH. If Ninjatrader does this they will cut in deep to the MT4 marketshare which is something that is definitely needed. MT4 is just an old and limited capability platform that is so lacking compared to the NT7 & now NT8 offering. Once Ninjatrader adds a foreign FX brokerage relationship they will have a substantial growth period as many sophisticated FX traders rush to the NT8 platform. Ninjatrader added "Phillip Capital" for clearing Futures trades so maybe that will be one of the eventual options for foreign based FX clearing - I can't wait!!!

While Ninja Trader is a great platform it would be hard (really hard) to take away any type of important share of the market mt4 has because of the simple reason that MT4 was first to market. First to market is such an advantage that most big companies know this power.
Microsoft understands that very good, so good that it prefers to release a product even with bugs and they correct it as it goes.
I learned it the hard way.... we spend millions in our company. Of course nothing is impossible if you have a lot of money and time to market
but the chances are slim that mt4 will have any serious competition soon, this is forex, retail forex. Also the fact that most retail traders use indicators
that will be a head ache to convert does not help.

NT is a great platform but for all the traders using MT4 it would be problematic to re-code all of their indicators and experts.
but it is a good addition for those traders who want to trade manual with better charting posibilities,
the analytic part is something that MT4 does very poorly, and here NT can take some ground.
also CQG is avalible for trading FX now, even though not many brokers offer it yet,
this can be a new trend we will see more of, the competition between brokers are large,
and if they can provide their clients with a state of the art trading platform,
they will probably win a few customers over, maybe we one day will see brokers offering esignal?
I'm dreaming ofcourse, but mmmm, that would be sweet)

MT4 marketshare is collapsing from the terrible rolling updates past 2 years. NT8 will offer capabilities not available with cTrader and others who have been cutting into the declining footprint of MT4.

NT adding a foriegn clearing broker capability will be the icing on the cake for the continuation of MT4 fall from the top - just a matter of time now. The last traders that will cling on to the remains of MT4 will be the low end retail crowd - accounts at 5k and below. Sophisticated and monthly profitable Forex traders are running from MT4 in droves.

with mt4 you need a good ECN broker like rubixfx or global prime and you're fine. too many EA's / indis for people to abandon mt4. and people have been predicting its demise for years, so im not convinced

@roughtrader Have you tried to use CQG? I find it a complete resource hog, slow and generally very 1998 to operate. The so-called easy to learn language also seems like stepping back in time to me. I think Protrader3 is a far superior alternative to the others, but the company that produced it aren't giving it away cheap so the brokers wont touch it. Shame.

Ignored
Yes I have tried it, I did not experience it being a resource hog like you, but I have a fairly strong computer. i7 and 12 gb ram,
but I found it a bit unlogical and difficult to get into, but I did like the Dom a lot, and the charting is great.
I didn't test Protrader yet but it sure does look nice.
if any broker would introduce it, I will be sure to test it. I am a fan of esignal though,
I think you cant get any better than that, but it's also to expensive for brokers I think.
I think that Metaquotes should make MT5 better to counter these new platforms,
what they should do is make MT5 compatible with all the Mt4 stuff, and a Dom would be nice.
better charting capabilities, and they should scrap Mt4 all together and release MT5 to all brokers free of charge.
Mt5 is a far better platform than Mt4, being multi threaded and all, but I dont see they do much.
MT4 is ony 32 bits and can only do 1 thing at the time, also programmers would be so much happyer with Mt5.
and experts could be a lot more advanced.

Just wait til you use NT8 - that is a wondrous trade platform and has had a range of upgrades added specifically for Forex trading. Ninjatrader is on a roll with NT8 - now they just need that foreign broker arrangement to make the package complete.
