Hi, I was just thinking since in trading we are trading against people with big money, we should all be on the same page as them. This means knowing what time frames they are looking at and also the day open/close time they use. Since Rueters and bloomberg are the standard, we should start there.
So for the start of the day I went to http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/currencies/ and when the values turned to 0, that's when I made sure my platform started the day. So I guess they have it set to 5pm eastern, which is also when fx futures close. But not sure if this is the standard or how Rueters or bloomberg do it in there actual platform because in fx futures the open is an hour later at 6pm eastern...And I can't recall if spot fx is closed during the same time because I never tried placing an order during that time. If that is true, it would bring up a problem with platforms like Mt4 because there is no way to not show the data from 5 to 6pm eastern.
For chart time frames, I was able to find some pictures of what longer term time frames they are using on rueters platform: 1D, 5D, 1M, 3M, 6M, YTD, 1Y, 2Y, 5Y, 10Y, 20Y
I couldn't find the intra-day time frames. I'm guessing they are similar to mt4 but my potential issue with the 4hr time frame in mt4 is that it does not seem standard. I would say 3hr is more standard. For intra-day my list would be: 1m, 5m, 10m, 15m, 20m?, 30m, 1hr, 3hr, 12hr...
Maybe there are some people here who have Bloomberg or Rueters platform that could help us out? Let's get on the same page as the big players!
