This is how I rate volatility:

I use the Display Info indicator to sort the pairs I'm interested in by the size of their ADR. The indicator also shows other stuff like bid/offer spread, daily movement from open etc... but you can set it to only display ADR (or not... up to you).

The setting for ADR that I use is to average 5 days and I trade only the top 5 pairs (or thereabouts) with the highest ADR readings.

Not very scientific, but works for me.

YMMV.
I'm not trying to convince anyone. I'm not in the "convincing" business.

Here is your list for most volatile trading currency pairs.

Forex Volatility

You're suggested to do trading for the most volatile. The above link gives you access to calculate
many of the pairs you need and also the ADR's based on your customized time period.

This might help. All d best.

This spreadsheet contained readings from ATR (Average True Range) set to period=360 days. The last data was from Aug 31st, where EURUSD showed an average daily range of 102.83 pips. My friend will normally update this spreadsheet every four months on his blog. Might be useful for some people studying the major pairs.

I'm a new member and was hoping someone can offer some advice.
I have written my own EA which works best on charts with a lots of price movement in either direction (ranging periods).
I'm looking for large candles on a regular basis that swing both ways (even within the same candle)

So my question is, "Can anyone advise what pairs would work best?"

In Forex, GBP/JPY is the most volatile trading pair, on the other hand, Gold metal is too much volatile! Basically, volatile trading instruments are useful for knowledgeable traders since they generate quick movements in market, that means, you’ll get your TP so early! On the other hand, if you are new trader then please avoid volatile instruments right now, use less volatile instruments like EUR/USD and others trading instruments! Happy trading!

I am a part time Forex trader, I use only few hours for my trading in a day! That’s way, volatile trading instruments are my 1st choice! Yes, I need daily income! But, unfortunately I can’t make money in everyday! Whatever, after my gradually definitely I’ll use this financial market as a full time Forex trader, thus I can use maximum good points of trading!

I believe Gold would be more volatile in this week, as it has safe heaven demand. Market uncertainty is growing ahead of first round French presidential election and Trump fiscal stimulus next week (on Tax reform) .

Check the technical analysis of Gold. It could break the most significant resistant and multiyear trendline this week. Which would cause a huge upside move!

Gold is one of the most volatile trading instrument here, I personally know many Forex traders who rely on only gold and they get enough number of pips in every day! Whatever, I am a scalper and I need non-volatile trading instruments because of my trading strategy! So, I am not using gold and others volatile trading instrument here!

French Election changed the course of the EUR market. Now EUR should more volatile. Next target is 1.09811 (a higher high trend line also stands near) or above 1.11231 . Check the chart.
