MT4 Indicators Usage Tutorial/MQL4 Reference Documents

I've created this thread for reference since a lot of problems seems to be encountered when importing Custom Indicators into MT4. Specifically vegas' VWB indicators.

So for easier reference, I hope this thread could help.

IMPORTING OF INDICATORS

1) After downloading the indicators, either here:

OR here:

2) Unzip the file and it should give you the following files:
- VEGAS WEALTH BUILDER.doc
- Vegas Currency Daily.mq4
- Vegas S_P Daily.mq4

3) Copy and Paste the indicators (Vegas Currency Daily.mq4 & Vegas S_P Daily.mq4) into the "experts/indicators" folder where you installed MT4.
For example, if you downloaded the installer from Strategybuilderfx.com, you'll paste the indicators in the ff. folder:
C:\Program Files\StrategyBuilderFX 4\experts\indicators
Or if you downloaded it from metaquotes.net, you'll paste it here:
C:\Program Files\MetaTrader 4\experts\indicators

4) If MT4 is currently open, close it.
5) Now, Re-Open MT4

After doing the above step, a pop-up window/input box will be displayed.
Here, you can input the risk model by clicking on the "Inputs" tab as shown in the image below:

To overlay risk models, just repeat the step in the above post, and input the next risk model, indicated in the step here in this post.

If in any case the VWB indicators does not show in the "Custom" -> "indicators" from the menu, you can try the following:

I've just been through this when trying to install the VWB indicators. Here's what I did to fix it:

1. Delete the indicator from the Experts>Indicators folder using the navigator
2. Open the editor and open the MQ4 file from the location to which you originally downloaded it.
3. Using the editor, save the file into the C:\program files\metatrader4\experts\indicators folder (or wherever you installed the program).
4. The indicator should now be visible in the "Custom Indicators" folder on the navigator window.
5. When the inicator is dragged onto a chart, or added using a right mouse click, it will get compiled and will then run.

I've no idea why this is necessary, but it's the only way I could make it work. It seems like the editor must add something when you open the file and save it in this way.

If this ever happens to you again, one more thing to try is checking/changing your MTU settings. It's helped me out of a few weird internet access problems before.

Eastmaels, Thanx for the directions. I am new to the MT4 and though I have been trading FX demo for 1.5 years, I still consider myself a neophite. Anyhow I had no problem loading the VWB indicators thanks.

Hi Tariq,

Glad to be of help.

You can change the model number by double-clicking the number "1" and then change it to whichever model number you want.
I've attached an image for reference.

Here's how you can get data feed for other markets (limited) using MT4:

1) Data feed for other markets are only available (I think) in MT4 downloaded from:
http://www.strategybuilderfx.com/platform.php/

2) Once you've installed the platform, you then take the following steps to get the data feed:

a) Open MT4
b) Right-Click on the "Market Watch" window shown on the left side of the platform, then Select "Show All". It will then display the data feeds for other markets.
c) Drag the data feed you want to see to the Chart area and viola! You now have the charts up!

Please forgive....I can't appear to run the VWB. What I mean is that it is running but not as described in the VWB documentation.

Question 1)
ref: The VWB documentation Chapter 3 " From the 1 hour tunnel method, I would not trade a breach of the 1 hour tunnel [144 and 169 EMA's] if the fib...."
Do I need to change the EMA from the default [24/28] if I am in the H1/H4 chart?

Question 2)
ref: The VWB doc Appendices.."A. EUR/USD"
Bottom of page second paragraph.." First Line [red dash] = 89, second liine [red dash] = 144, third line [red dash] = 233, forth line [blue dash] = 377.
All my lines are red; Do I need to change the color. Sounds silly but thought i'd ask.

Thanks for your explanation of importing the files to Metatrader. I am a newdie and this is my first exposure to MetaTrader 4. I read the help menu...and a lot of the posts...I am going through information overlaod....

For a quick reply:
1) Question 1: Not sure if I understand you correctly since what I had in mind here was only VWB. But if what you're asking is if you're moving to the 4Hr/1Hr tunnel, there's a trick to it so that you won't have to change the EMAs when transitioning. The quick reply to that would be:
a) Add seperate EMAs for the VWB, 4Hr and 1Hr when you plan on using the same chart (what I do is I use several windows/charts)
b) Use the "Visualization" tab when you edit a Moving average to choose on which timeframes to display the MA. More to follow on this later.

2) Question 2: Not a silly question for me. Nope, you don't need to change the color. It's for visualization purposes only.

Glad you find it useful. I'll try to do a follow-up on Q1 when my mind is in full attention.

Please take a look at my screen. I selected Model #1 and #2 but the upper left indicates Risk Model #1 also the EMA 24/28; Is this right.

Could you explain the numbers F+1: F+2 etc. I have an idea that it refers to the fib numbers but not certain how it relates to the chart.

Don't mind that one, it's a limitation of MT4.
I think it's just a comment that cannot be overlayed and the comment that will be displayed is the comment of the first indicator.
(I suggest you don't mind it much as long as the appropriate fib levels are in place.)

Those are just the current values of the MAs and are used I think as the base point for computing the fib levels (Computation given below).

You're right, they are the fib levels. To compute for them you do the ff:
28 EMA=1.2156
F+1=1.2156 + 0.0089 = 1.2245 (89 fib)
F+2=1.2156 + 0.0144 = 1.2300 (144 fib)
F+3=1.2156 + 0.0233 = 1.2389 (233 fib)

the same goes with the fib levels below. the 24 EMA I think has no use..
