hi guys...
I'm looking for a way to back test my EA in 5 min chart for the last 24 month or even 48 month.. currently my MT4 only allow 4-6 weeks back test..
is there a way to do this?

Hi Nash,

With the current versions of MT4 you should be able to download historical data for any pair/timframe you want going back to '99. You can also use alpari data, but your best bet is to use your brokers data feed.

I'm not at home so I can't give step by step instructions. Try googling "MT4 history center".

1. Select Tools at the top,
2 Select History Center
3 Select the Symbol you want
4 Select the timeframe you want.
5 Select Download

It will take a little while...

If you need more data, you can change the max bars under Tools/options/ charts/ Max bars in History.

I keep mine at 1,000,000 as an example
To be more exact - since 99 we have around 3 000 000 quotes, set max history to 3 000 000 or more, bars on chard - does not matter.
When you press download, you get ALL timeframes. downloaded is M1, then it is converted into all others. that gives 90% modeling quality.
Hi, I'm having trouble to download data in MT, going back manually in the chart, only gives me data up to Jun/28/07 , if I go to the history center, doesn't allow me to download, it shows a window that says "There are no data for a symbol EUR/JPYm" , I've tried with other pairs but the same result.

Any idea what can be happening?

I think the problem is the mini account. IBFX minis use the little 'm' after the currency symbol. Since the history data comes from MetaQuotes it is not compatible with an IBFX mini account. Try opening a full size demo from IBFX. That should work.

Downloading data from MT4 demo wont do any good as most data are usually corrupted.

Go to Alpari and download the data you need and import them.

Thanks melpheos, the data I downloaded looks complete and without error, anyway I'm aware those aren't the prices of the broker so there are variations, but I just wanted to get a rough idea.

The problem is not the variation, it is the lack of data from time to time.
