So right now I am running a basic 1 screen 1 PC setup for my Trading. I am looking to get another monitor or two though as flicking back and forth between charts and webpages etc is getting annoying. I wanna know if anyone here uses multi-screen setups and whether they are worth the money. Also, are they easy to setup or do you need specialist software? Any comments are appreciated.

hey lib3rty..... i have several multiple screen setups and at least in my case, yes they are worth the money.... my latest and best setup uses the dell all-in-one.... forgot to mention in the post below, each monitor needs the usb 3.0 to hdmi/dvi cord..... they run about 50 bucks.....


whole deal took about 45 minutes to hook up and that included the quad monitor rack...........

i run 3 metatrader platforms, etrade's pro platform, etradefx platform, metastock's pro 11, watch movies and do anything need on the web..... all at the same time with absolutely not a single problem.....h
to trade and code, keep both simple... no call to impress....h

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but here goes. I have searched the forums for an answer and am probably duplicating the question, but I couldn't find anything.

I use different instances of MT4 (currently run 6 screens with 3 MT4 implementations). (Need 2 more sets of eyes and one extra brain but the extra eyes will probably scare the kids!)

Take just one instance as an example. I have a profile with 4 windows, say on E/U. I know that if I add trend lines, fibs etc and change time frames within one window, the analysis "zooms in" and shows up on lower time frames. But is there an easy way for it to show up in two different windows? So, if for example in window 1on H4 I draw a trend line, it could show up instantly on window 2 which is H1 for example? I know I can do it by saving profiles, templates etc, but 'm hoping there's a less pain in the but solution.

I guess it's pushing it, but it would be great if this could happen across MT4 instances too - without have to close mt4, copy template, paste template, open mt4, etc etc.

Sidenote - I did find a script somewhere to save analysis on one screen and then load it on another, but for various reasons it doesn't really scratch the spot.

There is a charting platform called http://fibonaccitrader.com/ which can do exactly what you need, that is, draw a trendline or fib on one chart and it will show up on other multiple timeframes chart windows. It's designed specifically for that purpose. Sorry I can't mention the costs or other details like integrating with your broker or I get in trouble with forum admin.

If you use two monitors, you put FibonacciTrader on left screen for charting purposes, and then place your order on MT4 on the right screen. Just an example.

For those who don't want to open the pc and install new graphic cards, there's another solution:

hey ferrufx.... yes that adapter is similar to the one I use.... mine is the sanoxy version....

using the all-in-one computers does away with the box.... you simply plug in the extra monitors into the 3.0 usb ports.... takes a minute...

setting up everything took less than an hour..... that's 4 additional monitors and the quad rack.....

if there was a better way, it would surprise me......h

Did you noticed with this solution a lack of response between the main display and the (Sanoxy) additional ones ?

What's about CPU and pc heat ?

hey ferrufx..... heat really is not an issue anymore.... except maybe??? for those intense gamers.... i have no experience with that....


when speaking of metatrader, metastock pro, etradefx, etrade markettrader, etrade pro, esignal and such programs, i run them all at the same time with no trouble...... this also includes watching movies, off the hard drive or usb drives, at the same time..... and ie explorer....


if, indicators/ea's are properly written there is almost no load per metatrader platform in normal trading....


years ago, perhaps prior to version 198, if running complex ea backtests the load would increase of course.... when metaquotes developed the 'genetic algorithm' method of backtesting, that lowered the cpu load and time considerably.....


heat issues , for me, became a non issue once quad cores came out.....

my computer budget is basically unlimited, but that does not mean i buy the most expensive things out there..... i buy what works best..... i've jokingly said some where on the forum, the reason i had to build my office was priscilla said if i brought one more computer into the house she would kick me out.....


is it absolutely neccessary..... of course not...... it's just a convienence......

i'll be the first to admit, a good trader with nothing more than a single iphone can make way more than she can ever spend......h

I am running 4 external monitors off one laptop, and 2 off another laptop. It make a massive difference in working with carts, and also for non-trading work.

The only "downside", is now I am reluctant to use the single laptop screen alone, when traveling (lol).

In my case, I have a docking station which gives me a VGA, DVI and DisplayPort and some extra USB ports.

There are some good options for adaptors to add monitors from various ports including old USB2 Ports, and some great ones for USBC ports.

In my case I found some products via Cable Chick Aust which worked well.

I have few USB to DVI/HDMI/VGA DisplayLink Video adaptors which I have been pretty happy with to run of a pre USBC laptop.

Occasionally the one screens running via USB will not start correctly coming out of hibernate, so I just unplug, and re-plug. All the displays go a little wonky for a moment and then it is all good again.

Also, when I started experimenting with multiple screen, I just got some cheap old VGA which are still working really well, then I got some new wider format that I like for some of my longer term charts. So you can work within a budget.

Hope that is useful for some people.
