I have an account with Oanda. I would like to stay with them but I'm looking for more advanced charting software.

Specifically, I'm looking for live tick data. I think Ninjatrader requires a fee?

Does anyone have information about Tradestation?

I tried demo'ing Dukascopy and their software looks good but I have not heard good things about doing actual trading with them.

Does anyone know if the tick indis on MT4 are reliable?

I would open another account with a broker if their software was good and they were reputable in taking trades.

Thanks for any input.

The only broker that i know with tick charts is WorldWideMarkets through their flash trader platform. now, when i say 'tick', i don't mean as in metatrader's price tick. i actually mean tick chart that moves per every second.

now, with that said, ICMarkets kinda offers tick charts through their mini-terminal metatrader 4 plugin.

also, as for tradestation, you could always request a demo account with atcbrokers just to try them out.

don't know too much about ninjatrader, but i know that they tend to appeal to futures traders. however, here is a full list of their partners/ brokers:

http://www.ninjatrader.com/partners *note: it may not be a complete list

What about Multicharts. It has all the bells and whistles that one would ever need. I personally think it would be considered one of the best platforms in the forex industry.

They have recently released a free starter edition with the only difference between free and paid is that you can only trade two symbols at a time. Forex brokers that are supported include FXCM, Lmax, Dukas and MB Trading.

Even I would support the multichart for the forex trading. I find it very useful for creating various real time chart. I have not tried the paid one yet, but will definitely go for it.

Hi,

Wondering if anyone can make any recommendations for the best charting package for my purposes (key criteria below). I am happy to open a new account with a broker, just to get a good chart package even if I don't trade though them.

Things I am looking for:

- Ability to setup multiple workspaces each with multiple charts: I trade multiple timeframes so like to have 4 time frames for each instrument setup in one window

- Fast: I want to preset the charts and move through each workspace. Opening charts one by one can take a lot of time on some platforms (especially if you are looking at 4 timeframes across 20+ instruments). Looking for HTML 5 or Java for speed.

- Large range of instruments: Currencies, indicies, commodities, sub-indicies (if possible)

- Data supplied by broker at no additional cost (including intra-day for commodities / indicies)

- Ability to set alerts in chart (with notes if possible)

- Ability to annotate on charts

- web based preferred

Currently I am using NetDania, which has most of these features although range of markets in not that big (looking for more commodities) and also their data for indicies is not based on futures data, only market open data.

Any suggestions?

Sorry for the late reply. But try Prorealtime. That would cover most needs you mentioned. If you create an account in IG markets they will give you Prorealtime for free if you make 2 trades a month. I have no connection with IG markets so just trying to help you out. I had similar needs and Prorealtime works like a wonder. Html5 and Java based so you can open it anywhere anytime.

One click and it will change the whole workstation to a different instrument.

Hope it helps.

Cheers!

Thanks,

I have an account with IG and did not think of Prorealtime. I'll check it out.

Many thanks.

Ninjatrader7 offers absolutely free usage without any time limits when using the demo facility. You can use their kinetic end of day feed - but better to set up an account with another broker that offers a live tick by tick feed whilst in demo mode [MBTrading]. If you decide to go onto a Live account using Ninjatrader7 then you will have to pay a subscription or to be more cost effective obtain a life time licence. NT7 can be linked to a number of different brokers and hence trading directly from the chart is available. Due to the programming facility and your expertise level it can be customised to your satisfaction to a higher or lower degree. = [Super Customisation].
Back Testing and Account analysis with comprehensive charting and technical indicators are provided.
Tradingview gives tick by tick feeds but at this time cannot be linked to any brokers - However all analysis can be done using their software and feed.

I suggest you go with NinjaTrader; they support Ameritrade and Interactive Brokers ( 2 reputable brokers). Or you can just use NinjaTrader as your broker...NinjaTrader is the best retail trading platform I've seen so far...MultiCharts is good too, I think it uses the same programming language as NinjaTrader.
