Hi everyone,

Need some help on doing manual backtesting with the MT4 platform.

I am following the advice of a person who posted on FF re. forwarding the candles one by one by pressing F12, but whenever I start drawing lines etc, I tend to click on a blank space in the chart and by doing so, dragging the chart forward to reveal all the future data.

Is there anyway to disable the scrolling function of the left mouse click?

Or any advice on how to have a better and more efficient way of doing manual backtesting on MT4? Since MT4 does not have the feature of hiding chart data and pressing some button to reveal the candles one by one.

Appreciate any help rendered!!

The method for manual backtesting I've come to know and love is a bit more complicated, but once learned is really cool!

There's a way to do visual backtesting with any indicators you desire. By doing so, you can stop the test at any point and no future data will be shown because it hasn't been rendered by MetaTrader yet.

OK, here it is:

  1. create a chart with all indicators you desire and save the template as "tester". MQL4 uses this template as the deault for any EA testing.
  2. create a simple EA, name it what you like save it and compile it. It doesn't need to do anything, but it can do whatever you like.
  3. open the EA Tester. Choose the EA you just created and select Use date and Visual mode check boxes as well as any other settings you need.

You can vary the speed of execution for the EA and stop it when you like for closer examination.

Good luck and happy testing!

Thanks for the advice, actually looking more of manual backtesting thru going thru one candle by one candle instead of going thru via EA... But will still give your method a try!

Looks interesting. I'll try it,Thanks.

I see from your profile you are from Croatia. Have you met Janica Kostelic or her brother. Awsome skiers! Great people too, from what I've seen on TV.

Hello everybody,
I have followed all the steps from http://articles.mql4.com/301 but it seems not to be working for me. I receive a weird error in Russian and don't seem to be able to view the charts as seen in the link above.
I would really love to make this thing work. Can some please help me?
Thanks
