A gigantic spike of 1400 pip , I can't understand why it happened...

But I don't know if it occurred on any other platform, I'm using VT.

Had to be a bad data tick. Often times some charting data feeds will spit out a false or bad tick of data. When I have one of those I simply go into my data file stored on my computer and edit it out.

ive often wondered why 100,400 etc point spikes happen. is it due to one of the major players making an error entering an order? are all accounts reset to their position before the spike?

i had my then account (a spread betting account) tickled a couple of times by these spikes, thankfully i had a guaranteed stop so only lost 30 points instead of the full 100 point spike. i was using 10 a point too, phew, lucky escape

What is a guaranteed stop, Anthony??

Is it available at all brokers, or some kinda special feature??

a guaranteed stop is a stop loss which is guaranteed even when the market gaps etc, but you a premium for it.

eg. spread for a non guaranteed stoploss for the gbp/usd would be 5 pips/points ,but the spread for an order with a guaranteed stop loss for the gbp/usd would be 8or9 pips/points .

the guaranteed stoploss was available from a spread betting firm. im not aware of it being available from forex brokers

I saw the same spike and wondered about it too. I just have a demo account with them and am aware of the fact that they use seperate servers for demo accounts and live accounts. The live servers are more robust and less prone to glitches. I understand that they use their demo users sort of like beata testers. They don't put a time limit on how long you can mantain an account so they get very large volume on the demo servers. As a result weird things sometimes happen. The real question should be -- Did anybody lose any REAL money on that spike or was it isolated to the demo server. I would realy like to know.

I had one problem with a spike and the Trade Desk reset my account live account for the balance. Gan Capitol

Does this happen allot? I have played with VT and not found it to be a very good platform.

There forum doesnt have any real activity which is a good indicator of its overall popularity. It does seem to have some good features if you can get them to work.

The way that I understand it, VT is just a platform. They are not a broker. There are several brokers that use Visual Trader, CMSFX being the main one. Most people that I have talked to only have experience on their demo server. I am trying to get some feedback from someone who has used them live for some time. They (CMSFX) seem to be one of the better rated companies out there but they get a bad rap because of the lousy demo server setup that they use. (see prev. post) Why they do that I have no idea. It seems to me that one would want to put ones best foot forward in a demo.

CMS (Capital Market Services) FX is my broker, and I also use the VT platform for my trades. I am trading for 7 months live now, and I am most satisfied with the platform. Almost no down-time. Response swiftness is great, save for periods of high activity, then it might happen that you have to wait for several seconds before your order is processed. Just once I could not get connected with their server at the opening of the market on a Sunday evening (22h00 GMT), I think due to heavy traffic (as the rates moved substantially): when I finally got connected after five minutes, the trade opportunity was gone.....
But again, just one lesser experience in 7 months. Not bad, I guess.

The platform has many options, almost every thinkable indicator, and a good reporting module.

BTW, I have never had bad experiences with the demo server neither.

And .... no weird spikes like above-mentioned.

Just sometimes, only sometimes, I get the impression as if I am the only trader at CMS: the rate drops dead just one pip in front of my limit order, or goes just one pip too far to trigger an order before going against it. But that may also be caused by my bad trading skills.....

I think it's interesting that you can't mention server stability in posts on the
CMS forum, so it appears CMS thinks there would be numerous complaints about it, and you can't even mention CMS in their forum. There is another VT forum: www.visualtradingcharts.com, that is not as strick as CMS in what you can post. However, I do not know the relationship, if any, between the CMS forum and the visualtradingcharts forum, eventhough the format is almost the same - if anyone knows please enlighten me. I have heard comments, both positive and negative, regarding comparison between their live and demo accounts. As for me, I have been using the CMS demo for 6 mo. now and have frequent connection problems and it takes a long time for their platform to download. CMS does have excellent charting and automated trading systems.
Someone posted here that some other brokers use VT, but other than CMS,
I haven't been able to find any. Who else besides CMS offers the VT platform?

Term we used to use in the subpenny world.... for example were watching something move thats prices at .0034 and all of a sudden we see a buy and spike to .034 LOL. Someone had a fat finger, missed a zero, placed the order, and cost himself a crapload of money he'll never get back...
