you cannot use gmail for your email alerts

open a free email account at bluebottle.com

and setup the email as:

SMTP server: mail.bluebottle.com
SMTP login: [email protected]
SMTP password: ********
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected]

Hope this can help you

Is thie thread dead? Having the same problem and can't get it to work either. I've tried yahoo, gmail, bluebottle, and sbcglobal. I'm at a loss at this point. Any further help is appreciated.

MT4 only uses SMTP, so there shouldn't be a way for an EA to use a POP account. As for SMTP not working for you, bluebottle not working is weird. It may have something to do with your actual ISP. Before calling them, get out of MT4 and try setting the email up in outlook or your preferred email client. Test it to see if SMTP traffic is getting through bey sending an email to itself.

If the email client does not work, it is not an MT4 issue but something on your ISP side most likely. If the email works on your client, try completely uninstalling MT4 and reinstalling it. Then try using metatrader to send a regular alert to yourself with the alerts tab in the bottom.

Here is a thread on configuring it correctly and sending alerts.

If the regular alert works. It is a problem in your EA coding.

Trying all of this should atleast narrow down where the problem is.

Got it working- thanks! Now I just need to make sure the coding in the EA is correct. Suppose I'll wait for a signal and pursue it on that thread if I have any probs. Thanks again!

Contrary to popular belief and many of the postings on this site, you can send email alerts from MT4 to Gmail accounts. There is no need to put a port number, just your SMTP. In this case, I have given you my SMTP as an example. No login required, just the Gmail account you're sending to. See the picture for specifics.

Cheers.

i plus this answer, if you have an ISP, you can use his SMTP server and send alert to whoever you want (that includes your gmail adress )

I don't think anyone meant you cannot recieve email alerts at a gmail account. You can send the alerts to any email.

The point was you need smtp not pop3 (as gmail is) to Send email alerts from.
Unless Gmail has changed since last I looked, they do not offer an SMTP server.

As far as I know POP3 is for incoming...SMTP is for outgoing...which is what we all set in out mail clients (outlook etc) when setting them up

popmail.ispmail.whatever
smtp.ispmail.whatever

or variations of the above.

Cheers

I'm certainly not too keen of putting my mail password into a 3rd party software though...
