hi santosh,

this might help you.

The calculation for the new day pivots are calculated from the High (H), low (L) and close (C) of the previous day.

  1. Pivot point = P = (H + L + C)/3
  2. First area of resistance = R1 = 2P - L
  3. First area of support = S1 = 2P - H
  4. Second area of resistance = R2 = (P -S1) + R1
  5. Second area of support = S2 = P - (R2 - S1)

and i grow...pip by pip.......pip by pip!!!!

Hi santosh, and welcome to Forex Factory!

What trading platform are you using? Each platform has different ways of showing the OHLC prices (Open-High-Low-Close). If you happen to be using MetaTrader, you can put your mouse on the close tick of the bar and a dialog box will pop up and show you the prices. Also, in MetaTrader, you can click on the fourth button on your tool bar (when you mouse over, it says "Data Window". This will open a data window. You can then move your mouse all over the chart and see the OHLC values for your bars.

But, if you have something other than MetaTrader, then let us know and I'm sure someone here will be happy to help!

As for the Pivot Calculator, you should just be able to enter the OHLC values from above and click a button. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out. But let us know if you need more help.

might want to check out this thread on pivots as well....

http://www.forexfactory.com/forexfor...ighlight=pivot

for the exact calculation, the post that gabroo_munda made above gives you the exact equation. work the equation a few times and plot the values on a chart, you will get it.
Relax and be happy.

there are 6 pivot points, gabroo_munda gave the equation for 4 of them. for all 6, look at the math in this code...

////// RESISTANCE //////
Piv = (highest(h,24) + lowest(l,24) + c)/3;
R1 = (Piv * 2) - lowest(l,24);
RangeD1 = highest(h,24) - lowest(l,24);
R2 = Piv + RangeD1;
R3 = R1 + RangeD1;

////// SUPPORT //////
Piv = (highest(h,24) + lowest(l,24)+ c)/3;
S1 = Piv * 2 - highest(h,24);
RangeD1 = highest(h,24) - lowest(l,24);
S2 = Piv - RangeD1;
S3 = S1 - RangeD1;
Relax and be happy.

hello sir,
this is santosh from india. i am one of the trader and i use pivot calculator but i have some doubts so please clarify it sir. i use pivot calculator for example i will give one example please tell me that is correct or not. the example is as follows:

09-11-2005 16.00 USD/JPY
open : 117.42
high : 117.59
low : 117.39
close: 117.55

then i found pivot points and pivot points are as follows:

Resistance 3 : 117.83
Resistance 2 : 117.71
Resistance 1 : 117.63
Pivot : 117.51
Support 1 : 117.43
Support 2 : 117.31
Support 3 : 117.23

the above are the pivot values then the pivot is greather than open price so then i will go to buy side it is correct or not please tell me sir. for example pivot point is lower tha open price then i will go to sell side it is correct or not please tell me sir. please clarify pivot calculator doubt sir.

The situation is not so black-white as you describe, meaning pivot point lower than open price does not always mean that you have to sell. It only means that for the time-frame applied, the trend is falling (bearish). But rates can easily rise above the pivot level.
The resistance and support points indicate the most likely area where the rates will move.

But won't it be a good idea to study the subject a little bit further before opening a real account? The internet is one great source of all information you need. Try e.g. the Investopedia.com site, most informative.

Success!

santosh,

Its not that simple , piviot points are like magnets , price gets attacted to them, or in a uptrend tends to slow around them, what you need is a piviot point stratergy, i personally use piviot points with candle stic formations. I would sincearly advice you to take a course before you put a single Rs. into any market.

About vanatge point software, do you have it or do you plan to buy it, we can discuss stratergies on it if you have the software.
