Just a random question. How many of you trade while at work/school because and how productive can it be in terms of trading results?
Because I'm sitting in my Business class bored to bits -_- Atleast there is internet

I just finished school, and I had a part time job the whole time and traded day and night.

My suggestion is at the beginning of each quarter consider the difficulty of your class by checking out the textbook/prof/and what other students say about the professor. From this you can determine if you can trade in there or not. Also consider how relevant the class is to your chosen profession.

I had my headphones in and had my face buried in charts for the last couple years of school and didn't get much of of my classes (aside from those that were relevant to my future)

Work sucks, I had to cancel my tv so I could afford a data plan so I could trade from my phone.

In response to how productive it was: I learned a lot of valuable lessons doing this. One of the primary lessons I learned from this was an iron fist of money management-a good focus on risk, as well as the importance of knowing the characteristics of the time of day you're trading.

That is brilliant... I've been thinking about trading during class and those statements hit the nail on the head. Thanks mate happy trading.

When that happens you question whether or not school is really worth it.

Yes, doesn't hurt to have an education to fall back on. I plan on working and building my account until I only need a few % per month to live comfortably.

Yeah man Carter IV even though i think Drake's new album might be better.

Education is important but if you're consistent you question what your doing with yourself and is it really worth it.. *philosophical beard stroke*

Haven't heard it. Not too big on Drake (or Wayne for that matter), but some of his shit is pure gold (about .05% of it)

I hesitate to call myself consistent until I have made my few % per month on average for several years. Until then a decent paying job that allows me to trade, in combination with keeping my living expenses low is part of my trading plan.

So is not having kids for many years (if at all), expensive bastards

i thought about getting my masters, but decided to trade fulltime. Trading forex makes enough money, and I don't think i would trade it for anything else.

Hello Mat795. I would like to give you advice. Take it as you like.

1) I`m sure you know the stat. "90% of traders are losing money"
that means they are not consistently making money year over year for SEVERAL years. That means 90% if not more people using this site are not consistent. Including me.

2) You must be absolutely honest with your self and think, "If I do not have the discipline to sit through a class, study and repeat for 4 years, how will I able to properly manage risk....in trading or anything else."

3) Are you appreciating the danger of the financial markets? As in war we like to fool ourselves that we cannot be killed or crippled for life.

Take it as a matter of fact that you WILL die/lose one or several accounts.
the cost of an education in forex or any market could pay for several college educations.

look at the guy at UBS he lost 2.3bn

4) Anyone who doubles an account in minuets hrs or even days is going to give it all back.

5) Would you want a doctor/lawyer/soldier who kind of floated through schooling/training to be at you side during a crisis?

Good luck and stay true.

BTW I did paper traded for a few years while at work and the results were bad. I thought I was going to be the next Soros (I couldn't give 100% attention to my work and trading at the same time.)

Points well taken but when Im sitting in a class doing quite literally nothing I just question whether or not its really worth it and I was wondering if anybody else thinks the same.
I certainly don't plan to just give up and start trading, after all my parents would murder me if i did anyway, but i was wondering what sort of results do traders get while juggling a job/school and trading to see if it would be possible for me to do the same. I do PA swing trading and my trades tend to span from a week to a month so i wouldn't be staring at a chart during class. maybe the occasional entry/exit.
