It was more just the time involved in crafting out a sharp edge that I was getting at. Plus the doco is kind of interesting.

Not the best mate... sat through a day of ranging waiting for the FOMC... went to bed at .5% profit so put SL at BE seeing as it was not too clear how things would pan out and before I even got to sleep I was spiked out unfortunately. Had a pretty boring week actually ... Once things start moving again should be more fun.

I like boring, I learn't a long time ago that "boring" saved me from having drawdowns.....LOL...
Missed a good trade on the Nasdaq, just have to wait for the next one, hopefully next week it gets "rollin"

I'm alright thanks

Not really a news trader by definition. I like to keep watch of it to gauge sentiment etc. But honestly haven't been following it lately. Just chart trading at the moment. Got lots on at UNI. It's really hard to trade at the same time..

Last roll of the dice for me this week... Long on the EUR at the minute from 182... Hoping to break yesterdays high and pierce this daily channel trend line... if it smashes through it I'm a very happy man. Otherwise will be glad to take a profit at the high. Fingers crossed. Got 3 positions in it and currently up 4:1... stops at 190. Hitting all sorts of resistance at the moment... Hope these buyers stay strong.

Nice entry on EU, The swing order looked nice, I might have taken that myself had I been around , only my entry would have been on the close of the 4h bar ( I'm always running late lol), still, nice move to end the week with anyway...

Yeah I bet after 10 years in the market you have a good feel for where price could end up. So it's just kind of picking a likely target and trading to it whilst allowing for retracements. All you have to do is kind of determine a point you will stop adding (that's those green zones on my chart). and then let it run. There is a bit of discretion in it so takes some practice. You have to over come the greed element of adding too much too soon and the fear element of not adding when you should but when they work you get really big boosts in the equity curve... and of course your always keeping that low risk so when they don't the hits are small. Sometimes it is necessary to go to break even but the idea is to avoid this and take advantage of good moves.. perfect example being Friday. I didn't get the breakout I wanted but still made a really nice R:R...

True.............I will probably end up forward testing it for a year or so, taking my entrys off the 4h instead of lower.........

The thinking for me, would be to try and make the stop placement as mechanical as possible, as this area is always my weak point.....
I trade better when my stop has "fact" rather than discretionary...Exits are mechanical etc..

Hmmm.............Food for thought anyway...

Well if you think about the really good moves, they lock the good prices out and just race away, these are the trades you should be adding to anyway... So if you visualize the 50% mark you can kind of gauge where a safe place is and hide behind the nearest S/R.

Also you make a whole ton more money on the trade by trailing your stop to at least your last open price. So if I opened long at 182 Ideally I'd want to open the next one with a stop of at least 182 or there about. Once you go under that your buying power significantly decreases. Something to consider. Sometimes it's just unsafe to do so though.

This is where trading sux sometimes.

Was in this last night. It moved so quick on me from the highs that I got the first one at a pretty bad price. Time escaped me so I went to bed up 1% on the lows with two positions on it... and set my stop at 13245 (I was confident in a further fall so left the risk on). I should have added two pips for the spread because I'd still be in it if i did. As it turns out I got stopped out to the pip. Going by my Interbank FX charts it shouldn't actually have stopped me out. But GFT quotes went slightly higher.

I should have been at least behind that resistance not ON it.... Lazy.

Opportunity costs from 13168 (where we are now) is at 6%...

So just the difference of 1 pip has resulted in a 1% loss, in what should have been a potential 10+% trade, currently @ 5%.

These are the hardest trades to stomach, I can only hope it whips back hard long or it's going to be a painful watch.

Taking the week off as punishment. Particularly with NFP coming up.

Hey mate, when I get stopped out I try and think of it as someone needs it more than me , like giving it to a charity or something....Helps for me.

This is what a friend of mine does with his stop......... once he adds the spread he then moves it back further to the next 3 or 7 (odds)....
He did some back testing and reckons these 2 odd numbers have saved him a pretty penny...no shit.., he's even got me doing it..lol..he's a pretty cool trader as well..
