hi,

i have 6 years of tick data and am trying to write code for newyork and london opens.

Are they always at 8am and 3amEST?

Or does daylight saving ever happen and there is an hour difference between ny and london?

Thanks

Just re wrote my reply. London and New York open times will vary for Daylight Savings on platforms (testing, Demo and Live) over the world to corresponde with the extra hour as it begins and the lesser hours at the end. With your tick data you may need to be aware of the hour variance once it begins and ends provided that your testing has this requirement (ie London open Breakout Strats with have variances in results if this factor is not considered because testing will naturally occur at a point when the market is actually closed).

Yep that can be one of the downsides to testing a time rated system. I have done it before with Open times on London over a period of 10 years and I reckon I spent more time making sure the testing times where correct (making sure london open was actually london open and not +/- an hour) than I did compiling the actual data results lol

I suppose you want to create an EA based on the london open, there is already an EA and I suppose it works good, I have not tested it personally but heard about it on the forum, just do a search on 'Simple London breakout', may be helps to save time.

my 2 pips
