Many EA's have been written over the past few years, many EA's posted in this forum, some are more complex then the EA's that are being sold on the market. Some of these are multiple currency baskets EA's and are impressive pices of work. And for the most part, the basket EA's are hard to backtest in MT4 as opposed to an EA that applies a single startegy to multiple currencies.
I'm interested in comments from those that have traded single strategy EA's to those that trade basket EA's. Basket EA's I define in this post as those that look at the strengths/weakness of currencies compared to others. For example, Steve Hopwood (a member of this forum) has made many EA's that trade like this (and he's done great work with the research of the base startegy and getting the coding right).
One such basket EA calculates the strnght of a currency by using complex calcualtions to derive the "index" of the currency, then finds the weakest and strongest pair and trades them according to that.
Based on your experience, do you notice any of the particular strategies hitting the wall as time goes on (no longer work)? I assume the basket trading strategies would be the most versatile since correlation is used as part of the plan, single currency EA's seem to suffer from "not being adjusted or optimized" to current conditions, and eventually stop working.
So, in other words, does using multiple currencies in a basket trading approach help smooth the equity curve? (assuming the EA already uses basic principles like multiple time frames and risk management).
