I'm trying to configure MT4 to set up Knology (my internet provider)email to receive alerts. This is what I've got but I keep getting the error:

Mail: error connecting to smtp.knology.net

I also entered the :25 as the port at the end but this didn't work either. I'm wondering if there are any other Knology/MT4 users out there...

I signed up for Bluebottle mail as well and got the same error...

Hey my friend... according to Knology.net, you entered the information correctly. Could it be a firewall problem?

The set up is exact to mine with exception to mine being aol.

HI'm searching to see if I have a firewall up somewhere but everything looks 'normal'. I emailed Knology support but hold little hope with that...

Hmmm, just went into the firewall control panel and allowed MT4 to be an exception and selected the SMTP to be allowed for everything...still a no go...

The attached picture of my bluebottle works for me. I wonder if the 'From' and 'To' has to be different?

This is the response I got back from Knology:

Dear Mr. Palmer,

Thank you for choosing Knology. I apologize for the inconvenience. Our outgoing email server is smtp.knology.net . We do not have any smtp username and passwords. If you have any further comments, questions or concerns feel free to contact our customer care department which is open 24-hours a day.

Thank You for choosing Knology

James M.

I'm not at the house but I'm wondering if I keep the username and password blank if this will work???

I'm stumped and I also stumped the tech support at knology. I've got the info entered correctly but I'm still getting the mail delivery email from MT4, even with all the firewalls off. If anyone has any suggestions how to fix this please let me know. I signed up with Bluebottle and I still get the email delivery error....

Take a look at your personal email clients settings.... some isp's or host's may use name+isp.com instead of [email protected] (mine was actuall the reversed that I just stated.... took me a bit to figure out). So if you are using the exact setting from your client it should work....

When you added the port did you do it in the same format as MT4 shows.
If yours should/would be smtp.knology.net:25.

I would also click on the very end of all your fields.... some times copying, you may of added a space at the end (as what happened to me from pasting smtp.knology.net_) and some servers 'see' it.

OK...I've been at this for about a week and still can't get MT4 to send a test email successfully:

In the Email settings in the control panel I have the following set up for the POP3 email settings. It's supposed to be POP3 isn't it???

My name, email address, user name, and password are filled in with my Knology info. The Incoming POP3 server is pop3.knology.net and the Outgoing SMTP server is smtp.knology.net as told by Knology.

When I test the account settings I get:

Establish network connection - completed
Find outgoing mail server (SMTP) - failed
Find incoming mail server (PO3) - completed
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3) - completed
Send the test e-mail message - blank

This is using port 25 for the SMTP server under the advanced settings tab. If I use port 26 (because Bluebottle does, they use another one also but that didn't work either)

I get the folwong:

Establish network connection - completed
Find outgoing mail server (SMTP) - completed
Find incoming mail server (PO3) - completed
Log onto incoming mail server (POP3) - completed
Send the test e-mail message - Unable to connect tot he outgoing mail server (SMTP). Please verify the port and SSL.....blah blah blah.

Either way I get the error in MT4 saying : error connecting to smtp.knology.net

When I start up Microsoft Outlook and configure that email, with port 25 and test the configuration, everything passes.

I still get the mail error with MT4 when Outlook is open if that means anything. Is Outlook blocking something somewhere? If so, how the @#%! do I find that out and disable it if that's the case?

Is some setting that I have to check or uncheck somewhere else in the control panel?

I don't use Outlook for my email at all if that means anything either.

I've done everything I can think of and I know the answer is something really simple and it's driving me nuts...

Any thoughts???

Can anyone help. I have the same issue as above.

If I use Bluebottle.com or one of my 3 mail servers I still get the same error:

Mail: error connecting to mail.bluebottle.com

I have allowed MT4 access through the firewall....no change.

Any ideas?

Thanks...MG

Email Tab

In this tab, the electronic mailbox is set up. Later on, these settings will be used to send message by the expert advisor command or by a triggered alert. To start setting up of email, the "Enable" must be enabled and the following fields must be filled out:

  1. SMTP Server — address of the SMTP server and port used. This server will be utilized to send the message. The record must be made in the following format "[server web address] : [port number]". For example, "smtp.your_email_provider.com:25" where "smtp.your_email_provider.com" is the server web address, "25" is the port number.
  2. Login — a login to be authorized on the trade server. Normally, it is an electronic mailbox. Example: [email protected]_[color=#ffff...vider.com
  3. Password — a password to be authorized (mailbox access password).
  4. From — the email address, from which the message will be sent. In this field, there must be name and emailing address on the mail server, the SMTP of which will be utilized. The name usually coincides with the first part of the electronic address, but the name can be omitted. Example: your_name, [email protected]_[color=#ffff...vider.com
  5. To — the email address, to which the messages will be sent. The "Your Name" part of the address can be omitted. Generally, in the "To" field, any really existing email can be specified. Example: any_name, [email protected]_[color=#ffff...vider.com

Attention: Only one email address may be specified for either of fields "From" and "To". Several emails given with or without separators will not be accepted.
The "Test" sends a test message using the settings specified to test their workability. If it has been tested successfully, the "OK" button must be pressed to apply these settings. In case the test did not succeed, it is recommended to check all settings again, restart the temrinal and resend the test message.

One way I have handled sending an email to more than one address is to send one email to one of my ISP email addresses. Then I use Outlook or Outlook Express to broadcast the original email to more recipients and my cell phone.

I've had problems for over a year sending mt4 alerts to my cell phone. Tried a bunch of different email providers, some would work for a while, then stop for no apparent reason, sometimes deleting the email file in the config folder and retyping the info on the email tab in options would help, sometimes not.

The journal tab would show the alerts being sent and test alerts would go through fine too, just inconsistent on the phone end.

I have T-Mobile and it turns out the problem may have been in trying to send the alert directly to my phone. For whatever reason, the phone seems inclined to reject the alerts if I put my number (#######@tmomail.net) in the "To:" box on the email tab.

Instead, I put in my gmail email and have set up a gmail filter to forward the alert to my cell. They normally go through within seconds and I've been running it like this for a couple weeks without problems.

Currently using a forwarding email address from 100k2.com, but I think with this set up, any of the others (like bluebottle.com) that you can find an open port for should work too.

That's my good deed for the day, hope it helps someone.

Looks pretty right. Have you tried shutting down mt4 after saving those settings and then giving it a test. Apparently it's important.

Worked for me with hotmail anyway.

Cheers

Try the email procedure at the very bottom of this document. Or if that doesn't work go to this thread and try the method described there.

Cheers,
