Explain what you mean further?

Do you mean, buy and hold, sell and wait strategies? If so, yes. I have been just recently getting out of positions I opened late 08, early 09. That is mostly with equities though, some commodities, one forex pair. Before that, I traded mid 07 into mid 08, mostly FX. So, that would make me more of a 12 - 18 month trader. I am a full-time student with a boatload of science courses, I don't have the patience for trading trading, just positioning for trends. Lot easier too, in my opinion.

StockKJay, you just enter and hold or keep adding lots with the remaining margin?

With FX, I just enter and hold. I set a SL if I guess wrong, but if right, I just let it keep going until I feel it is exhausted.

Equities, I will average down. I wouldn't average up, it doesn't make sense to me... makes me feel like I missed something.

Take notice that I have only traded one drop and rebound with the indexes, and only a couple major trend changes with FX. So, successful or not, the sample size is too small to give any specific advice or profess some grand knolwedge. If you enjoy the thought of long term trading, just put a 315 MA (doesn't need to be this #, but somewhere near it) on the EUR/USD 4hr chart. You will see roughly how I trade. Obviously you don't need that, it is just what I use. If you think you can work with what you see, all you can do is wait and try it out.

Problem is, you still need to exit... and not have the urge to beat yourself senseless a month or two later

I have been in the pound and euro since the first of the year......margin is not a problem....stops are where stops need to be to put acceptable MM in play. you add on as currency warrants, later add ons may be swing trades or day trades and keep adding to your account balance. do you check you IRA everyday? do you switch around the mix everyday? why would you mess with a position trade??
