Calculating Total # of Pips between entry and stop?

Hi Guys,
I am a bit confused as to calculatig the total pips between stop loss and order entry. Yesterday I was trying to execute an short order on my demo for the for USDJPY when i subtracted the Stop Loss price from the Entry price i got a # of say: 0.14566... But I am thnking thats not the pips...therefore I tried using an online calculator from goforex.net and when i enterd these price I got a pip value of 35 however the money managment calcuator at that site i not showing other pairs i am trading such as CAD-JPY. I am wondering what am i missing? and how should i go about it?

with a 5 digit broker you maybe have to multiply by ten to get the right stop loss in pips - ie 350. But be careful!

I think you are approaching this in a slightly confused manner.

I believe the first step would be to measure the distance in a calculator and then imagine if you had traded it a single mini lot. Would you have lost $35 or $350?

Also, your brokerage should have a “pip cost” feature for you to determine the value of a pip move. With this you can get a conceptual grasp of how much money you would be risking on a trade which you can then use to plug into your money management formula to determine which lot size to trade. With all of the different currency pairs available, I think the best approach would be to look into the pip cost first.

My broker has a 5 digit system, the 4th digit is one pip. If yours is the same 0.14566 would be 1,456 pips, which would be a huge stop loss.
