Can someone please tell me the best time to have my mt4 charts setup on? Should I use EST, GMT? What do most use.

Also I can't figure out how to change the time.
Thanks!

Thanks tesla.....you have just answered one of the four questions I am trying to get anwers to and have posted elsewhere. The 4 qs are:-

i) Is it possible to increase the point size of the vertical price readout at right hand side of chart?

ii) The 4 Toolbars I have set up at the top of charting will automatically open up and appear on each chart I switch to. However, after closing the program and restarting, the Toolbars are missing, so do you know of any way of setting them to remain there and appear every time by default?

iii) Is there any way of getting the crosshair to permanently stay on, even after clicking on the chart. When manually backtesting, you are constantly clicking and dragging, either to scroll (which can be done via keyboard), or point-to-point for price and pips readout etc. The way the software is written, each click of the chart cancels the crosshair, which then requires reactivating each time and can be quite annoying.

iv) Can time be set to EST? as it is currently 7hrs ahead.

I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.

johnny

I don't think this can be accomplished via a setting in MetaTrader, you most likely would have to change settings in your operating system.

I'm not sure what problem you're referring to here. I have four toolbars as well, and all four are displayed by default. Best guess? From the menu bar, select View > Toolbars and make sure all four are checked.

Not that I know of, but a quick center-click with your mouse (pressing the scrollwheel) should restore the crosshair.

tesla.....thank you for your prompt reply and help in answering my questions. I do have the 4 toolbars checked and they appear at the top of my chart.

However, if I close the MT4 program and then reopen, the 4 toolbars have disappeared, so I have to recheck them again to bring them back. Perhaps this is the way it is designed, but I thought there should be a setting that allows all 4 toolbars to automatically appear at the top of charts, each time you open up. If there is, I can't find it!

I am new to this Forum, but reading many of the posts, I do find the members most helpful.

Thanks again,

johnny

Sounds like there's an issue with your configuration being saved. Maybe your terminal.ini file is corrupt.

Try this: There's a file called terminal.ini in the config directory of your MetaTrader install folder. With MetaTrader shut down, rename the file (oldterminal.ini or something like that) and restart MetaTrader. You should have your four toolbars back. Let me know how it goes.

Have you tried pressing your F11 key? Fullscreen mode enabled/disabled.

I too have struggled with this problem. I have several MetaTrader terminals that I use, and all but one saves my view settings each time I close, and when I reopen it shows the toolbars just like I left them. Also the Navigator, Terminal, and MarketWatch.

But on just one of my platforms, EVERY TIME I OPEN IT, I have to go back and recheck every tool bar, recheck the status bar, and reopen the Navigator, the Terminal, and the MarketWatch. It's small, but it is a thorn in my side!

Today a second one of my normal platforms started doing it too, and that sent me scrambling for an answer. This thread was the first thing I found, and I tried what Tesla said, and it worked like a charm.

I closed my platform, and renamed my terminal.ini file. I chose oldterminal.ini also. When I reopened, it came up with toolbars, some stuff I don't use, and missing some other stuff I used. I rearranged the toolbars to suit me, closed the things I don't use, and opened the Navigator, Terminal and MarketWatch. Then once I had it like I like it, I closed the platform and reopened it, and crossed my fingers.

Moment of truth - - It came back up just exactly like I left it!!

So I just wanted to tell my exact experience in case others later come here and want to know; and I want to acknowledge Tesla for pointing out a very simple thing to solve the problem - -
