It means they will open a swap-free account for Muslims. This means no interest is paid or collected on your positions.

How would one go about opening such an account? I don't see an announcement on their website.

Also, are there any rules attached to it? I somehow doubt they will just eat the carry if people start to use this to hedge their +ve carry trades at another broker for a free lunch.

I think it might be only through their Dubai branch. It's for Muslims because of their religious prohibition against interest. How they will go about proving you're a muslim is beyond me. It's pretty safe to say that any one in this country with an Arabic name is a muslim though, so that may be all they require.

Here is their reply:

Thank you for contacting OANDA.

It maybe a possibility in the future that we may introduce this type of account,. however at this point in time we do not offer Swap Free accounts.

thanks, this thread showed me how easy it is to assume things with out doing my own research, look at all the replies and not one person bother to check if oanda realy offer swap free accounts.

Well, I've been speaking with John Woods, the head of Oanda in Dubai. I called him when the Dubai office opened and asked about it. He called me the other day and told me the no-swap accounts were now available. He's trying to get my managed money business.

So, it's not an assumption, it's fact.

Congratulations! You validated your own post. You dismissed what Dopey posted based on what someone else posted after him. Without asking for, or checking with, Dopey's source.

For the record, I haven't called Oanda either, because I'm not Muslim and don't live in Dubai. But I have found Dopey's posts to be well-researched and exceptionally reliable. And I doubt that forexwoman made up her reply from thin air either. Just shows how unreliable and uninformed electronic customer service can be.
