You know it is well worth learning how to program in MQL4.

The problem is that if you are trying to get something done, it is close to impossible to tell a programmer what you need and have them deliver it exactly the way you want it in the period of time you need it.

It is better to do it yourself. The next problem is where do you get answers to your many questions when you start.

I think someone that takes paypal could answer all our simple newbie questions for five bucks a question.

That way we get to learn and all you guys who know what is going on wont get bored with our stupidity.

Is there anyone up for that? Feel free to cann the idea if you hate it.
I've posted this before, it fell on deaf ears. Bill Gates will teach you for free - there is an Express package on his web site (Microsoft or MSDN) with all sorts of tutorials and free compilers. Most of you wanna-be EA writers and not programmers. Two weeks spent on the basics would stop much of the frustration and "stupid" questions. You would also get better quality help from experianced programmers if they see you actually did your homework.

That may be right but some of us try to do our homework and still get few here to answer.

I have a "sleep question" simply if I can include a time variable inside the brackets instead of ms.

Many people will know the answer but about two or three will answer.

If those people don't stop by for a couple of days, it could be a long wait for the answer and it is not in the documentation.


Anyway, I thought about this post and I am pretty sure it is not a good idea for other reasons.

Most all functions accept variables. If in doubt, code a simple script and run it. The compiler is a good teacher.

thanks for the answer and I had compiled and ran it..

It compiles ok, it just doesn't work. Not sure if I can have the order
OrderClose() and the Sleep() in sequence like that, I tried separating in another set of brackets with the same failed result.

The code closes the orders fine, so it gets that far and seems to exit after close and before sleep.

So are you saying I can't have the glOrderClose and the Sleep function on the same line?

Or are you saying to try it the other way and see?

This code produces the same non-working result. Meaning it compiles and closes the order but does not sleep.

Perhaps you have exceeded an unwritten limit on Sleep. Try a smaller value just to see. Something like 10 seconds or something. I also removed the extra brackets around the sleep function.

If it's represents Minutes, why did you multiplies it with Hour(3600000ms)?

Anyway, i thinx i read somewhere that each ticks has a limited time to be processed, so MT4 might force current Start() session to exit because you're exceeding this limit.
Now, can i have my 5 bucks LOL

Well I was mucking around with the code and extended it to make sure it wasn't working or that I was missing it in a visual backtest.

So it was extended to an hour..

Seems though, no one knows the answer. I don't see a mention of a limit on Sleep time in the documentation.

So can two functions be written in sequence like that? Has anyone done it?

The compiler does not care, you can write the entire program on one line if you like.

There are a number of limitations that are not mentioned in the documentation. That is what makes working with mt4 such a great pleasure.
