I haven't try this EmailToSMS thing, because i can't find my country in the list

I set up a GMX account and did everything as per your instruction but I still get this error.


2009.09.25 01:31:12 Mail: 550 5.7.0 Sender address does not belong to logged in user {mp-us001}


does this mean the username as password are not accessing my GMX account? I have verified I am using my correct GMX info so not sure what the issue is???

Same here, just signed up for GMX...

Tried Using Gawab.com, works perfectly, it seems that gmx has changed a few features... dunno what, but I'll stay with gawab.com

I have been trying to get my MT4 to work for months with no luck. Every email provider now seems to be SSL. I get errors with GMX and every other option I try.

I am reviving this thread in the hopes someone here can refer a solution to using MT4 to send price alerts from the platform, either an email provider that provides non-SSL sending or - if that Python solution is workable - might someone link me to some instructions for doing so?

Ok so now I've got this set up, emails are sent to my mailbox, I have a question

when the email is sent to me, how can I get the email application to sound an alert? I'm guessing you need an external application?

Thanks a lot for this leeofx, i skipped it a couple of times because i had trouble openng a gmx account, anyone having gmx error problems should try the opera browser, firefox and IE don't work. Now I get alerts within 5 to 30 seconds, i don't get messages just headers because my e-mail to sms provider (vodacomSA) is primitive, but its cool still. Happy new year to all

This thing works! I had the error message about "sender not a logged in user" at first but after a few minutes(maybe 15 to 30 minutes) it worked after signing up. Works with Gmail and yahoo.com so far in my testing. Fastest way was text (SMS) to my phone. I got message with in a minutes everytime this way. Email alert sometimes lagged 5 minutes fr0m alert send time. I'm giving this my thumbs up.

Thanks to leeofx the OP, now I finally have a use for iCloud on my iPhone

Takes awhile for things to get going, shut down & restart MT4 a few times, keep clicking the Test but finally it works!

Now have to wait until next week to see if the Horizontal Line Indicator sends out the email or not

Help....Anyone know how to set up this email in Metatrader?
It works, my son had it working but I removed Metatrader & installed another brokers version of it......now I cannot get it going & my son is at sea!
So make sure it's an exciting one, 'cos it's the only one you get!

SOLUTION:

If people ever ask how to make mt4's email alerts work these days, for example with the proposed gmx.com free email server they need to log into gmx.com Settings to enable "Send and receive emails via external program" and click Save button.

MT4 email alerts not working anymore was a common question for years. I wonder how no one wanted to look for this solution.

2023 status, for me: MT4 Email alerts stopped working recently (including b1380 (24-Mar 2023) ). It was already broken on the day before, 23-Mar, and it apparently broke sometime between 23-Mar and my last successful MT4 Email on Feb 20th.

And yet, still today, the same Email login credentials work for MT5 Email alerts!! (including today's b3668, and the prior version on 23-Mar)

I've been using a Comcast.net account in MT4 -> Options -> Email for years. The SMTP server: smtp.comcast.net:587
I see a recent email from Comcast (Xfinity) that they are about to restrict access by some older Email clients, but the change is coming on April 17.
My MT4 Email already has stopped working... and yet the same credentials still work in MT5 just fine! (I can predict that on April 17 it may break MT5, so I've signed up for another email below).

I created a GMX.com email account per earlier instructions in this thread. (That process was a pain! I kept getting failures that would interrupt the new account creation at the final step. I tried multiple browsers, then eventually used my phone. I don't remember what worked, but it finally did).

I can use the GMX.com email account on MT5 just fine. As mentioned in earlier posts, the SMTP server: mail.gmx.com:587

On both Comcast and GMX, I have enabled them to allow 3rd party apps to connect for SMTP (POP3) purposes. The fact that both work with MT5 proves I've done whatever Option(s)/setup was necessary that allows the login access.

But then MT4 is another matter. Neither Email account works now. Maybe it is MT4 that has changed, and is no longer compatible??

Does anyone still use GMX.com email account -- or any other free email service?? -- with MT4, and it works? Or are you also having problems?

In the software that I have source for, I'm replacing: 'SendMail(subjectVar, textVar) with 'SendNotification(subjectVar+" : "+testvar)'
That seems to work, and Notifications are faster, but I'd still like the ability to do both.

I have a way to make it work on MT4 build1380.
I used a gmail account to send an email to my GMX account.
Procedure is found here: https://www.forexfactory.com/thread/...4-gmail?page=5

One of the main problem is setting up the "Apps password" in my Google security settings because the lik to this parameter was not displayed in my interface.
Fortunately I found the direct link which is: https://myaccount.google.com/apppasswords

I now works perfectly.

Thanks for the info. I got it working, and here's the steps I used:

I created a new gmail account.
I enabled 2-step verification. (I only enabled this for my new gmail account; other gmail's I use can be an independent setting).

I followed the steps here to create an "Apps Password" that I use for MT4. This is what I use for the MT4 "SMTP password".
(I had no trouble to find the "Apps Password" link as described, but I see that your direct link also works).

Contrary to what it says -- that you don't need to write down nor remember the Apps Password (because you're just going to use it once?) -- I did capture it for reuse, because you *do* need it for each MT4 that you want to enable the Option for Email.

I was somewhat guided by the steps in this post, but I ignored step #1 (The step for lesssecureapps did not apply to me. HOWEVER, had I not enabled 2-step authentication, then perhaps this is an alternative solution).

... I was just a little bit confused by this because I imagined the solution was more complex than it really is.
I just need for MT4 to be able to successfully login to an email account to then send an email. I previously used a "@comcast.net" account, and then a "@gmx.com" account, but both stopped working in MT4, as I previously described.

I'm guessing that you use GMX for your regular email. You figured out how to get MT4 to login to a GMail account. The later is all I care about. I don't happen to care about GMX. I use the Gmail account to send an email to myMobileNumber@myMobileCarrier's_IM_address. (Depends on your mobile carrier). That sends my phone a text message, usually fairly promptly.


For all the programs for which I have source code, I've switched over to Notifications, although I actually just send both types of messages: Notifications and Email (and until now, the MT4 Email had stopped working). Notifications seem to be faster, and accomplish what I want, which is to send my mobile phone a message that gets my attention.

For any programs I don't have source code for, that only use Email alerts, it will now work with the Gmail solution provided.
