Good afternoon,

I am quite newish (10months) to Forex and was wondering if I have really wrong expectations of my introductory system.

My question:

If I have demo tested my strategy for 2 months and back tested that for the previous 4 months so now on demo testing for 7th month. Is a strategy that is profitable for 6+ consecutive months have a chance of being successful in the long term? I do have a very wary mindset but it looks to have potential. Am I wrong to be conservatively hopeful?

I have read in a couple of places that 2-6months should be taken to test a system before even thinking of trying to go for a real account?

I would appreciate the thoughts of anyone who has views on this

Kind regards

I would say yes, that it does have the potential to be profitable in the long run. I have used profitable systems that have been backtested for 6 months or so and they continued to be profitable. As long as you follow your own rules, you should probably be ok. Don't, however, think that it will work forever because the market is ever-changing. I would say that a 6 month test is sufficient to start trading live if you are comfortable with it.

I would say go for it, keep money management in the forefront of your mind, and trade very small lot sizes while you get used to the nuances of live trading.

What is your system?

back testing is bullsh#t.

i can write program after program that works back testing only to watch it fail forward testing.

forward test any system for at least 6 months.

i like demo trading but many cheat so use real capital with absurdly small lots.

mike.
