What kind of leverage have been you using for your first steps on fx ? Does 100:1 make any sense ? I feel I may need such a leverage at sometime but hey I am no specialist...

The first step is deciding if you are gambling, or trading.

If gambling, the optimum strategy has to be using the highest leverage you can find, pick a direction and go for it, I wish you the best of luck

If trading, use the lowest possible leverage you can afford, remember leverage is a double edged sword

Using high leverage has nothing to do gambling.
Neither is it more risky. Higher Leverage only means you need less to trade more. Nothing more nothing less. This gives you more free margin. Not really a bad thing. Only because you can trade 100 Lots on a 5 Dollar acount because your leverage is 1:1000000000000 doesn't mean you have to.

Yep quite scary !! Anyway, from what I've read in different threads after that post, it would seem that good leverage doesn't necessarily mean more risk-taking, it's just about how you manage it.
Leverage looks like to me as a way to not get frustrated if, at a time, you plan on a move that wouldn't be possible with low leverage.

Hi there, well I started with 100:1, everyone I asked recommended that type to start. It has worked great for me, but it is really important how you handle it.

Thx Kenny. The broker I am demoing currently is offering 1:100 for micro accounts. I'll check other details but that leverage looks good for a starter.
