Hello, I registered a few weeks ago and don't think I have yet posted - I was going to start a new thread here in the 'Rookie Talk' section today to ask something but for some reason it won't let me do that.

I wanted to ask if reading this whole thread (The One: Price Action and Reaction | Forex Factory) would be a good idea for learning and if not what should I be doing? Let me tell you about my experience with trading so far so you can gage this and provide a better answer...

My first experience with trading was around 2019, somewhere around Covid when I opened up an account with Trading212, I traded stocks blindly (mainly NIO) and on impulse, made a £150 loss then regained it back and then made a profit of around £120 by holding positions and luck, I did some demo trading on forex and using real money and lost around £20, I then quit because I thought I don't want to take any more losses. What I should have done was continue trading but I didn't, but it was a good job I went back into trading on the same platform around July 2024 (last year) and made a profit after reading a few books, watching Youtube videos, etc. which has helped loads.

Over the last 2-3 weeks, I have ramped up my learning and looked on the 'Trading Systems' section of this forum and combined everything I have learnt so far to create my own trading system which uses indicators, risk management, and looking at price action, etc.. I began proper demo trading forex (on Trading212) a week ago to test my system and to get experience and looked at the charts, I made some losses, refined my system a few times and reset my demo account, and over the last two days I have made a profit of £129.89 and have applied risk management, etc. Today I want to focus on learning.

What I want to do now is make sure I know more about price action because I want to get in on more precise entries, and also learn more in general which will make my trading even better - please offer any advice if you are experienced.

I entered the world of trading with a demo account, hoping to break the rule that you can trade with just $10. Unfortunately, even with a demo account of $10,000, I was still losing.

Hi Apexmaster37, i was in same boat when i started, surrounded by yt videos and course sellers. To be truthful when starting youtubers can help such as introducing you to what FX is (OTC) and its functions of being a OTC instrument, however, its basis is limited to basic support and resistance and basic PA which is good. It gets complicated when they start talking about ICT which many fall into due to its appearance and strategy looking complex, many believe your chart has to look messy and complex for it to be a winner, which is not true. You could probably have a profitable machine/stratergy just running Support and resistance and watching basic PA.

in terms of candlesticks/patterns, it really depends are you a scalper, swing trader, or intraday person. Find a stratergy and style that fits your personality, this can be said about each market. For instance, FX is open 5 days a week 24/7 whereas, if you are targeting indices such as US500 it is only open till NY time

hi T.o0120, it is nice you are looking into trading, find your passion if its your passion you will find success.

trading requires discipline, passion, luck and consistency. as you are starting my mistake was rushing, try take things slow first. Understand what CFD is what FX is how the brokerage system works, how an order is processed ect... understanding these may not seem useful but if you have passion for trading they can be helpful in professional field.

If I am not wrong, I feel that: This is a classic bearish head and shoulders pattern.
Looks like a bearish head and shoulders to me.
The right shoulder forms lower, and once price drops under the neckline, it usually hints at a move down. Pretty common reversal setup.

liquidity grab + structure shift around 10:00 lines up with what I look for too. I’ve found waiting for a clean 1m displacement and a 5m FVG tap cuts a lot of noise. Do you wait for that confirmation or take the sweep candle?

There is no right and wrong answer here. It can break the neckline and goes down or grab the liquidity and goes up. You need more context and the rest of the chart. Even then there is no wrong or right, it's only probabilities.

Hi, I'm fairly new to trading and I had a problem with TradingView and MT5. My take-profit/take-profit level was supposed to be at 57,618, but as you can see on TradingView it seems to have hit, but not on MT5. (The longest wick on TradingView reached 57,598 and on MT5 the longest wick reached 57,640.)

When I started, I picked one pair and one session and wrote down every trade reason in a simple journal. That kept me from overtrading and helped me see that risk per trade matters more than any indicator

I'd kindly suggest this:

1. Pick a family of instruments you want to trade,
2. Develop a strategy around them,
3. Write a solid, clear and short Trading Plan,
4. Test it out, again and again,
5. Adjust and do it again

Since you are a new member, as I am now, we cannot post threads yet; so, as in trading, it will be a matter of time till we get to that point. I also want to start a thread on trading Synthetic Indices when I am allowed to.

i joined this thread looking for help and found a new Motivation after just reading for an hour,
the fact that so many senior trading analysts have gathered here just to help new fish and share they're experiences just amazes me and gives me hope in some way.
the only thing missing is appreciation to those who put they're time into replying to these "dumb questions" but lets be honest there is no such thing as a "dumb question" still im here saying how much i apreciate every single one of you who put they're time and effort into helping new guys like us, Thank you. right now im floating around looking for a strategy to stick with the choicses are overwhelming for a new guy like me but i will get there somehow help would be appreciated.
im not doing this as a "get rich quick scheme" im doing this because i have something to prove and i will do whatever it takes to make this work not for money or status but just so i can say, I Did It. im not saying the money is useless because it would solve 80% procent of my problems i'd like to think so. but its not even close to the reason im here. Good luck to all not just in trading but in anything you do with ur life.

I suggest beginners use one method, one timeframe, one instrument. This cuts a lot of noise.
I also strongly suggest 2 trades max. Use these two bullets to select the best setups.
Finally, write down all your rules and never, NEVER break them.

Most beginners fail because they don't journal, or they do it incorrectly. I’ve recently moved away from manual spreadsheets and integrated AI-driven journaling into my routine. The difference is huge—AI can spot inconsistencies in your strategy execution that a human brain might ignore due to bias. Improving your review process is just as important as perfecting your entry.

Hi! I started actively trading about a year ago. I have not been profitable, but I continue to keep on the charts and continue my learning. Would love any insights, resources on this. I seem to be struggling with timing of my entry. For the trades, I don’t take, they immediately go my way and for the ones that I do take, I seem to get stopped out by a few pips and then it goes my way. I’m sure that’s a common one lol I just seemed to really be having a hard time with understanding where the price is going to pull back to and which cues tell me how far. Anyone else struggle with this?
