Thanks for the replies!
I was just curious.

It would seem like this kind of
term would have been used for
over-the-phone jargon.
Maybe not so much anymore?

Doesnt the Euro coin contain a picture of wheat (fiber) on it? I thought the name was similar to CAD with the Loonie on the coins.

Not sure it's even a wholesale retail term. I remember someone inventing the term here. ( Maybe not the first and only )

We know how cable got it's nick. The poster's idea was that Euro being a new currency, that is should have a similar nick related to the later fibre-optic technology.

Not too keen on the name myself. ....I just call it Euro. lol

Origination of the nickname fiber or fibre is as follows:
Fiber: EURO
The "paper" used for Euro banknotes is in fact 100% pure cotton "fibre",
which improves their durability as well as imparting a distinctive feel.

Sources of fiber are usually divided according to whether they are water-soluble or not. Insoluble fiber possesses passive water-attracting properties that help to increase bulk, soften stool and shorten transit time through the intestinal tract. Soluble fiber undergoes metabolic processing via fermentation, yielding end-products with broad, significant health effects.

Some sources of soluble fiber are peas, beans, oats, apples and carrots. Sources of insoluble fiber include whole wheat, corn bran, and Euros.

So eat a bowl of Euros for breakfast every day. They'll keep you regular.

incorrect. It is loonie because they have a picture of a Loon (bird) on their currency.

you are all wrong.

it's because the trading loonies use a cable to hang themselves and once expired they leave a mess like someone who ate too much fiber.

simplest answer is usually the right one, right?

The only currency slang I've heard is

Euro, Cable, Aussie, Swissy / Chef, Dragon, Looney and Kiwi.

When talking about the EUR/USD I have to call it the Euro Dollar, I always think just calling it the Euro creates confusion. It's a shame it doesn't have a decent slang term, it should do considering its popularity. Fiber sounds crap, guess that's why no one uses it.

As for calling a currency pair a beaver? Someone has got to be having you on. That's like calling Gold / Silver a Snatch ;-)

I used to think the Cable was called a Guppy, I also thought I was supercool using slang whilst on the phone to my broker, until one day he pointed out what I pleb I'd been for calling the cable a guppy.

"Guppy Cable"; whyever not?

You can tell your broker you are halving his commissions as of right now, and to get off the phone and back to work.
