Fed Could Still Cut in June if U.S. Labor Remains Strong -- Market Talk
7 March 2024, 19:08
1208 ET - The U.S. labor market keeps giving signs of strength, but growing immigration means that high employment "doesn't necessarily need to be inflationary" and the Fed could still start cutting interest rates in June, BNP Paribas' Yelena Shulyatyeva says. "The data may continue to run strong," she says. "Everything seems to be positive, especially if you continue to get [strong] payrolls readings." Today's weekly jobless claims met expectations, at 217,000, while February payrolls due tomorrow are expected to remain strong, with the unemployment rate steady at 3.7%, in a Wall Street Journal poll with economists.
