Someone experienced, could you explain to me what is the difference between the MQ4 files which is the source code for the ex.4 which is just the executable file.

Can the bookmark creator change the file of all the people who download the bookmark after installed on Mt4?


To prevent an indicator from crashing, what should we do? Just put the ex.4 file in the bookmarks folder without the source code.

If I don't enable the DLL, will the indicator still work?

I always see experienced trades saying that they don't like to enable DLL on the indicator. For what reason?


It would be interesting if any experienced trader could answer the questions.

As you say, the mq4 files are readable source code, the ex4 files are the compiled executable from the source. You can place a mq4 file in your MT4 directory and your MT4 will compile it on startup.

You download a file (source or executable) to place in your MT4 directory. The bookmark has nothing to do with it unless you subsequently re-download a newer file from that same web site/page. The author cannot update this file on your system, only provide a new one for you to download yourself.

If you have a badly written indicator or EA it will crash whether you have the source or executable or both. There is no bookmark folder as you describe it that is within the MT4 file area on your PC

Forget bookmarks, I think you have your terminology confused.

Some files require external DLLs to work correctly and if you get these from a trusted source things are usually OK. However, a DLL can provide much greater communication paths between your PC and the outside world and it is because of this that some traders have trust issues with enabling them. This is worse if you only have the executable because you can't read the source code to see what it might be doing or where it is communicating data to and from. Only download files from a trusted source.

Whenever I can, I'm helpful and polite. I still don't help on the forum due to lack of experience. But one thing I don't understand is why I always see the answers with an ironic tone. Is it good to answer like that? It's not just you, there are several. When they respond to something, they always put an ironic tone in the response. I still haven't discovered the fun of it. When I read something like that, I only associate the response of a teenager who is not mature enough to be direct and polite.
