Have you tried installing MT4 to the flash drive instead of copying and pasting the directory?

I agree I have run MT4 from a number of different devices. I do not use Vista on any machines. I have done this with XP, 2003, and 2000. I have always had copies of MT4 installed on the computer's hard drive in addition to the USB or other drives. I don't know if that made a difference.

fyfy,
Start to open a new demo account. When you get to the Trading Servers page scan them and see if there are any connections.

Are we talking about USB HDDs, or is there a possibility to run MT4 on my mobile USB 8GB stick without problems? Would be nice for work

You can use sticks. In a prior thread there was discussion about how rapidly it would wear out a memory stick. I have an older 250MB stick that I have been running a test on. I have had a demo platform EA trading on it for months. So if it is wearing the stick out it is doing it slowly. It would certainly work fine for part time use. If you are used to a fast computer you may notice MT4 runs a little slower on the stick.

USD Flash memory has limited writes and infinite reads. So, if you're concerned about wearing your stick out, make the folder read-only.

Actually I'm trying to wear it out. I've been testing for several months with an active EA. My several years old undersized stick still works with no errors.

Would MT4 operate in read only folders? I've never tried it but I don't see how.

If you want to run the write limit, you probably need something which writes to a file.

As for read-only, the trading part works. The testing part seems to require write functions.

that sounds great!
I will check that out.

Will buy a SanDisk Cruzer Titanium 8GB (which additionally comes with U3)
hmm, or maybe a neat small USB HDD ?? I guess that would top the performance quite a bit.

Cheers!

You don't really need more than 50MB to run metatrader, unless you plan to do any backtesting.

Hi all ;
We can launch metatrader from a USB flash by using a portable version of metatrader.
To make a portable version you have to:
1. put the atteched files (compress.bat , upx.exe) in the program files folder of metatrader.
2. executet the two files
3. copy your metatrader folder into your USB flash and its ok.

Attached File(s)
File Type: zip U_usb to make soft portable.zip   90 KB | 1,567 downloads

Hi MouradAmine,

this sounds great.
I thought (reading the thread before) that nothing special was neccessary?

What's ur exe-file exactly? where is it from?
