I may be harsh but I blame the Colonel for much of it. Elvis had his own style at the start. Then came the swing music movies from Pillow Talk, Girls Girls Girls eetc.
By the end of the 60's he had gotten back into LIVE concerts and they were amazing energy.
Like Jupiter posted he had a big resurgence on his comeback and the Vegas concert where he did the brilliant Suspicious Minds was terrific.
He was backed by a female backup group known as the Sweet Inspirations. Whitney Houston's mum Cissy was in the original group but she had left by the time Elvis played Vegas in 69 or 70 I think.
Their first single was the same name as their band (or vice versa lol)
