    Australia's trend estimate of employment increased by 16,800 people in March 2020, with: • the number of unemployed people increasing by 3,500 people; • the unemployment rate remaining steady at 5.2%; • the underemployment rate increasing by 0.1 percentage points (pts) to 8.7%; • the underutilisation rate increasing by 0.1 pts to 13.9%; • the participation rate remaining steady at 66.0%; and • the employment to population ratio remaining steady at 62.6%. Over the past year, trend employment increased by 224,100 people (or 1.8%), which was the less than the average annual growth rate over the past 20 years ... (full story)

Well you would think so, but it seems to be who can bullshit the most wins. ABS data is highly interfered with and never close to reality as result. The calculation method changes often as they show on their website.

From the ABS webpage: "It is important to note that the reference period for March was 1-14 March, which was before a global pandemic was declared and before the major actions in Australia to contain the spread of the virus."

The next one will have the full brunt of the restrictions on it.

The survey period was before lockdown perhaps thats why the green release. However like they said any pullback moves from this is doubtful and also consider the fact that both USD and CAD had horrible unemployment data and the markets didnt react much to the releases due to price in so even if AUD had horrible data the reaction would have been mild at best due to price in. The real kicker to AUD is the CHina GDP release later this week

@cogs, well, it is made up, you only have to read it on their own website, just based on a few phone calls and extrapolated out to the general population, DOH. All this in a day and age of over Information, of available actual data, more DOH

April employment results will show the COVID impact. Queues at Centrelink were very long and its been a long time since we saw those images.

those that think the Centrelink lines are a mirror of the economy remember that many business ceased trading at once, so of course there are going to be queue's and maybe if your memory doesn't work, there were also queues to buy toilet paper also out the door at major supermarkets, now where are the queues?

The data from the ABS re the labour market is a SEASONALLY ADJUSTED ESTIMATE. Odd results on the Labour market are not unusual partly due to the different datasets they use for the estimate.
