So either a horrible deal by the end of 2020 or no deal.

A good deal will be symbiotic and vice versa.

Someone need to steer the ship, bit has been directionless for a long time.

It is deal or no deal (and it goes both way), so also will be the benefits or consequences.

If we divorce in a friendly way, we may end becoming a lifetime friend, but an acrimonious separation will leave deep marks for a long time

Look at it realistically...its been 3 years after brexit and the politicians weren't able to agree on one f*cking thing. And now they will have 11 months for a complete trade agreement? 10 years isn't enough for those morons.

In life some people need a push, deadline to start working well, if 3 years with several dates couldn't cut it for them, they need another method, otherwise it will never be done or achieved

The primary reason that nothing was achieved lies at the feet of the obstinate politicians who frustrated and delayed the entire process at every opportunity. The public has voted many of said politicians out of office and they can now stew in their own sanctimonious juices. At least we have a parliament now with a clear vision/objective and a healthy majority.

From what I have learned from watching politicians at work for the past 20 years, I think the outcome will be as follows...they will do nothing most of the year, but pretend to be working hard...then before the deadline they will sign a deal that will be the same or worse as no deal, but they will present it to the public as the best deal possible and a win for the UK. At the same time no politician will even read the bill or know whats in it, but they will all celebrate and tell their voters what hard year they had by negotiating the deal.

Ive just put the phone down from some LSE guys who mentioned trying to apply a rough PERT to that 11 month negotiation schedule Johnon is peddling and it just dont fly because of its complexity.
To establish the sort of "close relationship" the UK government allegedly aspires to, the time required will be 2-6 years. And so we look to why UK should take this bizaare cliff edge "negotiation tactic" (domestic politics apart) and see that their dilemma, is that they cannot begin to effectively negotiate any new Trade deals with the US, India, China, BongoBongoLand or even the many countries with associated international BTAs with the EU already in place, without absolute clarity first on their future EU relationship. Add to that .. that the EU is a tough nut on the best of days in the negotiation game. and that the UK in that area, is way under resourced, under experienced and negotiating from relative weakness .. I do hope it all works out .. for UK and EU, but looks like a heck of a mountain and a big challenge for Mr J.

"......negotiating from relative weakness...." HAHAHA

If you have already handed in your notice at work, do you honestly give a s&%t if they threaten to sack you.

With the 2nd biggest EU partner abandoning the EU, the EU is substantially weakened. The nitwits in Brussels have a rough road ahead without the UK to fund their criminal activities.
