  • UK and EU harden their positions on Brexit as G-7 nears

    From pbs.org

The European Union and Britain, which are hurtling toward a costly, damaging no-deal split in a little over two months, kicked off a high-wire week of diplomacy Tuesday by entrenching themselves deeper in their irreconcilable positions. Highlighting new British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s determination to leave the bloc on Oct. 31 even if no Brexit divorce deal is in place, his government said as of Sept. 1 it would stop attending all EU meetings where its vital interests were not at stake. Johnson’s Downing Street office doubled down on the message later, stating that unless the trade backstop on the Irish ... (full story)

That's an incorrect assumption by that populist German politician as also the net receivers will be paying their share. Especially countries like Hungary will be receiving less funding because of their undemocratic development.
Also, as I have pointed out several times before, the EU budget represent some 0.066% of EU27 gross national income (GNI).
For example Germany's national budget is €356.4 billion, so the 12 billion gap caused by brexit is not that a big deal.
https://bruegel.org/2019/01/eu-budget-implications-of-a-no-deal-brexit/

UK will lose much more than their yearly net contribution, 12 Billion per year, in case of a hard brexit.

Delusional Trader Tero

For example Germany's national budget is €356.4 billion,

That national budget won't be sufficient for the bail outs of the EU countries

You are the one who is delusional. Which country are you now bailing out? EU won't have to bail out UK after a hard brexit if that's what you mean. USA can handle that.

Why is everyone worrying about Brexit and how the country is doomed.

We will be fine the markets will be fine, the country will be fine. The media just scare munger.
Jeremy Corbyn is an absolute buffoon.
Borrish Johnson might be abit crazy but he’s doing a dam site more for the UK and too be perfectley honest he has more backbone.

Corbyn wants to scrap our only nuclear weapon system (trident) what does that say to the likes of countries like Russia???

Wake up people stop being lead off the edge of the cliff like the rest of the sheep by the media.

The EU will suffer a whole lot more than what we will and so will Germany and guess what, because of this it won’t be too long till Germany decides to leave too!

Remember the damage Greece threatened to do back in 2015?! Imagine a 10 fold impact on EZ, as UK lacks neither foreign reserves to meet any short term supply disruption, flexibility to protect foreign workers and a vast network of businesses. The two sides understand there can't be a real divorce between the UK & Europe. Too much damage and everyone will bleed ...

Only that we have much less blood in our vessels to spill than Europe. BTW how come 'foreign workers protection' appears in this equation? Brexit is all about getting rid of Johnski The Foreigner.

My understanding is, the UK has no problem with the EZ/ EU immigrants ... just the people coming from the middle east and refugees! It will be framed as 'High skilled Immigrants' just like Trump framing the issue in the USA. Reality is, the UK understand the value of immigrants like no other EU country.

Actually, it is and has always has been about both. Ever been to Boston, talked to UKIP/BP types, read their manifesto, chatted with the so-called ordinary people? Heck, even access to fb should suffice! Thing is, we have sold it, or rather lost it, our country to our very own obsession and paranoia about aliens.

The game of hard-ball chicken is well and truly on now - let's see who blinks first - I bet they find yet another reason to kick it further down the road.

In the mean time, talk of no-deal Brexit should be bad for GBP; while usurping Boris and the democratic referendum vote by law makers in parliament should be good for GBP.
Believe you can and make it happen.
