It's the most stupid thing China is doing ever. China will be the one in need of supplies not EUA. China currency will dive.

It will shake Trump's voting figure for upcoming election. Short term loss for China, there are bunch of alternatives at cheaper rate.

Yeah, we'll be paying farmers again for crops they can't sell and to keep their fields empty. I'm sure they're happy they voted for Trump. And I hope they don't get mad when people start referring to them as welfare queens.

fyi. china russia india vietnam thailand have inked agricultural deals. it's also as you say, stupid that australia is not inking one. given that it is facing a looming recession by siding with the US. plus the fact that aussie managed to escape the previous gfc solely because of china.

China only hurts itself.
US will take care of Farmers impacted.
China's Hog population with huge losses from African Swine fever. US has plenty of Pork.
US Farmers can plant other crops and the loss of production from heavy spring rains will affect total available for market.
US also does more trade with Mexico and Canada then it does with China.
The fall in Yuan is only going to cause other Exporter Nations more pain and China is not going to be very popular going forward.

add: Unlike financial markets which run on CB click of the button, and this will come as a shock to those who do not know which end of the screwdriver does the work, you can not print up food. Food replicators are still the realm of Science fiction.

There are NO Winners in this Sino-US 21st Century - Super Power..Tariff Trade War confrontation.
The game isnt a Last Man Standing game. Last Man Standing is a preNuclear concept.
The current Sino-US trade conflict, should it develop into a full blown trade war .. which Mr Trumps simplistic aggressive "Art of the Deal" mantra, and diplomatically & culturally insensitive negotiation style with the Chinese is beginning to make inevitable..
.. will be a War of Attrition Game.
In almost every other scenario the US would emerge as least damaged (suggesting a relative US win?)
But NOT in this. In the Geopolitical economic War of Attrition Game now emerging - TIME is the critical issue.
And TIME is NOT in US side. Its on Xis side.
Think it through.. Why I believe this isnt a smart policy.. for US or its trade allies.
Just a Thought.

China is already in decline. Once a bear market hits it builds momentum. Time is not on China's side. Its already over.
