The rate cut won't happen until Fed saw all the data showing that recession is here. If Fed does a rate cut, it tells the world that US is in recession, what will happen to the rest of the world is gonna be a chain reaction. Rate cut will happen if only if recession is really here.

In light of this testimony, a 25 basis points rate cut in July is pretty much set in stone. Interestingly, the market is getting ahead of itself, factoring in a 21% probability of a 50 basis points rate cut later this month.

Numbers don't support a rate cut at this point. FED will not cut rates in order to please POTUS. That's not their mandate.

I'm not advocating a rate cut. I also think it's very questionable.
My previous comment was just my takeaway from what Powell said yesterday and today.

BTW according to the CME Group data, the probability of no cut in July has been at exactly 0% since the June 19th Fed meeting. That's strange

I agree. Cutting rates just to please the POTUS would be a mistake and it would send a wrong signal to the markets. FED would lose their credibility and that's why I don't think it will happen but you never know.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The Fed defied Trump several times in 2018. In other words, they kept raising rates despite the fact that Powell came under fierce criticism from Trump. I think now the Fed is just naturally being dovish, not because Trump said so.
