In the week ending July 6, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 209,000, a decrease of 13,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 221,000 to 222,000. The 4-week moving average was 219,250, a decrease of 3,250 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 222,250 to 222,500. The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2 percent for the week ending June 29, unchanged from the previous week's unrevised rate. US weekly jobless claims fall more than expected
video The number of Americans filing applications for unemployment benefits fell more than expected last week, pointing to sustained labor market strength that should help support a slowing economy. Initial claims for state unemployment benefits dropped 8,000 to a seasonally adjusted 221,000 for the week ended June 29, the Labor Department said on Wednesday. Data for the prior week was revised to show 2,000 more applications received than previously reported. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast claims dropping to 223,000 in the latest week.
