  • Gross Domestic Product, First Quarter 2019 (Advance Estimate)

    From bea.gov

Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2019 (table 1), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the fourth quarter of 2018, real GDP increased 2.2 percent. The Bureau’s first-quarter advance estimate released today is based on source data that are incomplete or subject to further revision by the source agency (see "Source Data for the Advance Estimate" on page 2). The "second" estimate for the first quarter, based on more complete data, will be released on May 30, 2019. The increase in real GDP in the first ... (full story)

  • U.S. Growth of 3.2% Tops Forecasts on Trade, Inventory Boost

    From bloomberg.com

U.S. economic growth accelerated by more than expected in the first quarter on a big boost from inventories and trade that offset a slowdown in consumer spending, bolstering the expansion ahead of a major milestone. Gross domestic product expanded at a 3.2 percent annualized rate in the January-March period, according to Commerce Department data Friday that topped all forecasts in a Bloomberg survey calling for 2.3 percent growth. That followed a 2.2 percent advance in the prior three months. But underlying demand was weaker than the headline number indicated. Consumer spending, the biggest part of the economy, rose ... It's almost like low rates ARE the problem.....if the G7 central banks make the cost of capital near ZER0, and the world is flush with capital, and we reward loss-making enterprises like Uber with $100B valuations, then this all amounts to massive DEFLATIONARY forces within the economy.

Does anyone else see this?

why?!!! Gdp includes two parts: price and quantity, it was high based on quantity but was lower than expected based on price. increasing possibility of rate cut

It's all about the inflation this time. The FED is watching it like a hawk, so we're not out of the woods yet.

Fundamentals are just a catalyst, they don't change the chart. If its topping, it will fall, if its bottoming, it will go up, you can delete all indicators and stop drawing lines, this is all you need to know.
Everyone can see the chart, but only a few can actually read it.

Still very much a "buy USD" world....

I would be willing to bet big money that the US Fed hikes again before ECB/BoJ is able to hike once.

But you are forgetting one thing...rate hikes won't help the dollar...the chart already has a setup everytime a big event is happening and doesn't care about the result at all. Before FED started hiking, EU was 1.06, after all the hikes it was 1.25...so like I said...don't expect a hike to increase dollar's value, because in the past 3 years it did the exact opposite.
Everyone can see the chart, but only a few can actually read it.

The USIndex on the weeklies closed well above 97.550 for the first time after several unsuccessful tests of the weekly highs in mid nov-to mid dec 2018 and again all the way from early march to april 2019...this is significant in my imho...the manner and strength of this candle makes me cautious..there is a potential case for a run up 98.5 on dailies in the near term then to significant overhead resistance of 99.3 to 99.5 on weeklies..if that is broken and close above achieved..it is blue skies above..will take time too

I believe you are spot on....my charts and indicator is signaling the same levels. 98.45/76 on the H4...102.07 is a viable target on the D1.
E/U and Cable are backfilling market gaps and balance point voids on the downside...€ down to 1.0740s Cable potentially 1.2660...also gold I believe will resume the move lower at least to 1257 but should go lower. Crude WTI is going to collapse as the spigot is going to open at this level. They were looking for 70$ per bl...but will grab this price.
Best wishes...
I may not be right...BUT, I am never wrong

You are totally right the investment world is upside down these days. I read a story a few weeks ago that the IPO price for Uber represents 30 times the average value of the losses over the last few years. Normally the value should represent a ratio of the net income. I guess some investors have money to burn investing in non performing-firms.
