    In December the average cost of a home was £229,729 and annual house price growth stood at 1.3%. A stronger monthly growth figure for December reversed a weak November figure, monthly fluctuations are common, leaving the annual figure very firmly in the range of 0-3% as we forecast at the start of the year. In 2019, we’re expecting continued stability in house prices with between 2% and 4% price inflation. This is slightly stronger than 2018, but still fairly subdued by modern comparison. It's interesting that the Nationwide House price index came out just last Friday stating that house prices in December -0.7% and were only up .5% for the year with an average UK house price of £212,281.

Here we have the Halifax telling us House prices are up by 2.2% in December and up 1.5% annually to an average of £229,729

If only we could be told which company is closer to the truth! I asked questions to The Halifax last year about their raw data + method of averaging prices and unsurprisingly they did not answer
Also last month on the radio they stated that average house prices for UK had dropped £10000. Perhaps Halifax uses the governments corrupt data
London, home counties and south west are getting panned, the rest of the country is creeping up a percent or two a year.
