  • Minutes of the Federal Open Market Committee

    From federalreserve.gov

The manager of the System Open Market Account (SOMA) discussed U.S. and global financial developments. In global markets, strains in emerging market economies (EMEs) contributed to volatility in currency and equity markets over the period. In addition, concerns about trade tensions between the United States and China were the focus of a great deal of attention among market participants. Such concerns led the Shanghai Composite index to drop as much as 8 percent at one point over the intermeeting period before recovering somewhat. The renminbi, however, was relatively stable, reportedly in part because investors ... (full story)

  • Fed points to more rate hikes amid criticism from Trump

    From cnbc.com

Federal Reserve officials remain convinced that continuing to gradually increase interest rates is the best formula to preserve a steady economy, according to minutes released Wednesday of the central bank's most recent policy meetings. That may not please President Donald Trump, who has been vocal in his criticism of the central bank's actions. A summary of the Sept. 25-26 Federal Open Market Committee session reflected both confidence in the rate of growth and some hesitancy over the impact that tariffs might have on the future path. Ultimately, the committee unanimously voted to approve a quarter-point hike to its ... (full story)

The tone still remain the same! ''In determining the timing and size of future adjustments to the target range for the federal funds rate, the Committee will assess realized and expected economic conditions relative to its maximum employment objective and its symmetric 2 percent inflation objective. This assessment will take into account a wide range of information, including measures of labor market conditions, indicators of inflation pressures and inflation expectations, and readings on financial and international developments."

Actually, I really don't care what any individual is doing, but I do assess what the majority are doing and the majority of retail are wrong most of the time. This and other boards are a good barometer of how retail is thinking. IF 95% retail lose then doing what they do is not a smart approach.

95% of retail loses? REALLY?

Says who........

I'm a "retail investor" and I DO NOT lose $.

Herd behavior IS important and one of the principles behind EW theory.

Good to hear.
I'm retail too, and I do just fine as well, but while the 95% number might well be disputed it is most certainly 80%+ (a number that has repeatedly been shown to be the case). Sadly we are exceptions...

As to herd behaviour , don't confuse what retail are doing with what Commercial and non-commercial players are doing. (retail is but a small part of an enormous market...)

OK - I get you - I've been feeding into the $$$ dips since early 2018 - reduce a bit - add more back- rinse repeat. Now reducing on the rallys and adding less back reducing down generally...

Added I have a chart just like that for each of the majors except I rebased each cross first so no one cross has a disproportionate effect...
