nobody knows what is going on behind the scenes you've got the official line given to media and you've got reality. There's already a trade war with the two largest economies in the world with tit for tat trade tariffs, you've got the largest market in the world focusing in on Germany's exports especially, then you've got EU trade being affected by China and the US. Their largest current EU customer is the UK where Germany makes 45 Billion Euro surpluses every year. Germany is an export driven economy where 45% GDP is manufacturing their market will ultimately get squeezed with all of these threats to their main export markets. You think there will be no deal in that environment? Germany is powerful but not infallible.

Could not agree more, and with Trumpy slapping ever rising tariff's on Germany's car industry, not to mention the loss of reputation after the VW diesel emission scandal, it would only take a major EU bank to run into trouble (Let's go with Deutsche, but there are many more) and Germany would look very different, not so much a powerhouse more a potting shed... but they say "we have trade with china" , with China's exports stalling, debt getting un-manageable I'd expect to see a lot of those smart looking German robot orders getting cancelled, after all who will need them if you're whole political play relies on keeping the billions in employment, well done EU , you've successfully told the UK to shove it, at what cost ? lets find out shall we - Japan do make the best cars in the world, anyone for a Tesla ? Funny to read all these comments, no real content here. We all are in a global economy like it or not. No one player can just flip a switch and turn things off. Its politics, there is nothing new here, it has all been done and said before. At the end of the day we currency traders are in a game of speculation and in that game, one should focus on the direction and go with it, and only pay the littlest attention to the why as entertainment value especially if a politician is involved. Fundamentals and technicals, not politics and panic.

Pretty much nails my sentiments on this debate. Very likely as much progress will be made in the closing days than has been "achieved" since 50 was activated. I have little faith in Brussels coming to their senses and any sort of agreements compromises occur only if our govermnment folds. (Weak and battered though our govt may be, I don't think it will flod.) The UK and Commonwealth has overcome GREATER enemies than few overpaid overempowered over pensioned beaureaucrats. So YES 'lets find out shall we'

2. UK Government is negotiating fantasy Brexit against the clock without a mandate.
3. Major UK industries like Aerospace/Auto / Financial /Agri all warning Gov of costs and damage. Ignored.
4. UK Public apparently in denial of evidence of the insanity of the policy, to the extent of trying to block and denying need to revisit and reevaluate decision.
Our simplistic conclusion.. next development will be a serious political crisis.

(aren't we in a global economic train crash happening in slo mo thanks to cut and paste economic policy on the parts of all major govermments and central banks.)

2. UK Government is negotiating fantasy Brexit against the clock without a mandate.
(EU and UK have little common ground part of the reason for leave. Give us another 20 30 50 years 'negotations' and zip will be achieved)

3. Major UK industries like Aerospace/Auto / Financial /Agri all warning Gov of costs and damage. Ignored. (industry agri etc has been battered since we joined EU and agreed they have every right to be worried 'seemingly ignored' I think not but cannot be addressed for reasons described in 2.)

4. UK Public apparently in denial of evidence of the insanity of the policy, to the extent of trying to block and denying need to revisit and reevaluate decision.
(There is a chance this could be 'insanity' but can the UK survive on it's own? What a stupid question!)

(already there with no credible opposition party to the Tories also a decent section of the electorate looking at the ballot sheet thinking 'none of the above'.

I am partisan in this as is almost every single UK national and many nationals of other European countries. It is inevitable. AND (judging from the posts emanating from your IP address) So are you btw.

What I think is what I think. What I trade is dictated by the flow of orders and positioning of the markets. There is NO conflict between the two and I'm sure there are many others here who do not have any problem with that separation between a) having a viewpoint and discussing it, and b) trading what the markets have to offer.
