I am moved to think that the chant of 'Fake News' is used as liberally as denouncing and persecuting innocent peasants with the term 'Witch' was up to the 18th century.

That isn't to say that I think the press are motivated by anything so noble as public interest, but equally, in spite of all their story fabrication / sensationalisation / manipulation and general economy of truth employed to sell copy (in whatever form), denouncing such with any credibility relies upon those stories actually being factually inaccurate.

To denounce so much that is largely correct as 'Fake News' has done nothing but place a question mark over the credibility and motivation of those who routinely employ that mantra as a way of countering inconvenient truths for which the full story is perhaps as yet somewhat opaque but nevertheless real.
