Given the strong friendship which exists between Angela Merkel and Donald Trump, it will come with no surprise to see german cars start being produced in China, India, or maybe Russia and Benz factories in U.S. closing.

I can't believe that you wrote the above comment with a straight face.
1. You can't just 'build a factory' in China. The Chinese government has to involved in every step and takes their 'share' it's NOT that simple
2. Germany won't get the profit from a Benz in China that it does in other parts of the world.
3. Production of high grade cars in India and Russia? I guess you never heard of the Yugo did you?

GM's business is booming in China. General Motors sells 70% more cars in China than in the US.

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (上海汽车集团股份有限公司), also known as SAIC (上汽) and SAIC-GM (上汽通用), is a Chinese state-owned automotive manufacturing company headquartered in Shanghai operating in joint venture with US owned General Motors. The company had the largest production volume of any Chinese automaker in 2017, making more than 6.9 million vehicles.[27]

Maybe they throw our GM convert the factory to MB production.

there are going to be some winners but mostly losers in any trade war. The story below will be repeated many times over if the Trump trade wars continue, so go ahead and start working on your excuses now.

Apart from that Daimler has a separate partnership with state owned company in China. It doesn't look good for workers in US.

Smithfield might also entirely moved to China.

Winning.

Such short sightedness....so sad...

When you are in a fight and are LOSING what do you do? Do you just go along and keep doing the same thing and continue losing?

No you change it up and do something to hurt the person whom you are fighting.

If this 'Trade War' hurts people so what? Why do you care anyway? People don't understand that when you are the 800 lb gorilla you can do what you want. For the past 8 years and more the USA was a sleeping giant content to let the rest of the world catch up - No More.

Ok Ken you put out what you see, fair enough. To those workers I say I feel your pain and you can collect unemployment.

With record unemployment they should have no trouble finding other jobs.

The company, Element is the one playing chicken with the Trump administration. Element buys their components from China - ok, buy them from somewhere else.

You people act like this crap has never happened before. In the 1940's when the US couldn't get rubber from Indonesia because of the Japanese taking over what happened? They found other sources. Americans are creative and this is a small blip.

For every one of those video's you find I bet it's twice as bad in China but their government won't let any reporters say that.

Furthermore if you listen to the reporter this is nothing more than a electoral hack job. But the Mayor of the town, the lady, still supports Trump because we aren't tired of winning yet!
...because you never know - until you do!

BTW I heard NO MENTION of the lower than expected PPI and CPI today.

If these Trade Wars are supposed to increase inflation why did the PPI come in lower?

Because most of what is happening is hype.

I agree. What most people don't get here is this trade war is not about unfair trade balances (although that is part of it) this is more to due with China's blatant theft of IP tech. China is acting like an adversary rather than a trading partner and thus various shifts within US policy along the lines of national security is what this is really about. There will be short term pain for long term gain, and in viewing the aggregate of how US interests as it relates to China and their infiltration into our institutions, and their covert political lobbying power, the cat is about to come out of the bag that will be revealing the spies network that China has planted in order to steal and get an edge; See the Diane Feinstein story as being the tip of the Iceberg that in the coming weeks much will be revealed and many more will be implicated as being complicit in taking Chinese bribes.

https://www.politico.com/magazine/st...-russia-219071

Furthermore the US has shifted alliances with India to shore up most favored nation status and sanctions on Iran is intended to weaken China's economic aggression. You wouldn't know it from the fools here who regularly love bashing Trump and spew on a daily basis of hating on anything American such as what good little commies do. For the most part they are sitting in someones basement but their own and talking out of the *ss! The reality is they have been more wrong than they have been right and thrive on playing devil's advocate here on these forums because they don't usually have a life of their own to have proper perspective or to actually know or understand the complexities on why things are happening the way its being played out on the global stage. Everything else is fodder and Hyperbole intended to throw the hounds off the scent of truth! It just amazes me how many here on this site live or have created an alternative reality for themselves without knowing the slightest bit of actual truth and what is actually happening behind the scenes. Usually what is currently being reported and was is actually happening are the opposite of each other on a spectrum of propaganda, such as chafe and countermeasures to cover for face saving strategies.

Good point.
We heard this often when I was growing up in the 70's, 80's ....
Both China and Japan would leave shipments of goods on their docks with any feeble excuse like a word was not spelled correctly or illegible on a consignment note and the goods were left to be spoiled. This continued to the point where many companies stopped exporting to China.
It is only now coming back into the spotlight by the media because it makes a good drama story to pull readers in. These under handed tactics to discourage importers are rarely reciprocated in the western world even though the opportunity is always there to exploit.
Maybe the west's moral compass just reads differently!
