Job openings hit record high in June at 6.2 million
Monthly jobs openings — a gauge of the U.S. economy that's closely watched by Fed Chair Janet Yellen — increased in June from May, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Tuesday. The number of openings was at 6.2 million on the last business day of the month, a record high, the report from the Labor Department said. This represents an increase from 5.7 million on the last business day of May. For the month of June, the Labor Department reported hires and separations were little changed at 5.4 million and 5.2 million, respectively.
