  • City envoy says France wants 'disruptive' Brexit

    From bbc.com

France hopes that Brexit will weaken Britain and London's role as a financial centre, according to the City of London's envoy to the EU. In a leaked memorandum, Jeremy Browne said French authorities were seeking "disruption". "They are in favour of the hardest Brexit," he wrote. "They are crystal clear about their underlying objective: the weakening of Britain, the ongoing degradation of the City of London." Mr Browne a former Liberal Democrat minister and since 2015 the City's special representative to the EU, attended talks with various French authorities earlier this month. The memorandum, which was leaked ... (full story)

haha as I said before the UK doesn't like competition they suck at competition. What France is doing is completely normal and fair, every EU country should follow this example. Brexit is a great business opportunity and frankly we're better in any area so it's game on. I'm very excited about competing with the UK because it's a sure win.

Wait for it, now the splitters are going to complain that France is PUNISHING them boo hoo !

Lol. Barkie ( Barking )
The pack can be led by an Alpha male, at the alpha males choosing.
Good luck following a dysfunctional EU pack.
No matter how many leaders you think you have or have, when they are wrong the pack will only exist fleetingly!

Well, thats tough luck for the UK and feeel sorry for those who chose to remain over there but Imagine you own a business and one of your competitors is soon to have limited access to the market which you have been battling against each other, wouldnt you feeling like the French? By the way, the French arent the only ones in Europe feeling that way.

Anybody who expected anything different is a fool. They tried to weaken us when we were committed to staying in EU so they can't be expected to change now.

In all negotiations Ive seen or been party to, (public) comments from both sides have been tailored to frame or reframe the case, each towards the other. In this negotiation, between the UK and EU, its seems that 95% of public comments by UK negotiators, and UK government ministers, are being directed INWARDS, for consumption of UK domestic media and public. Rightly or wrongly, from a technical point of view that suggests/confirms an inherent instability in the UK mandate.

France's personal tax rates and deductions are crippling. No one with their head screwed on the right way would willingly establish a base in France unless it was just to service the French market

Sorry barkie but you are totally wrong, the UK loves competition, it is the EU that does not like it. The thing that you have to remember is that when the UK leaves the EU, the UK will have greater flexibility in making itself more competitive than EU members.

I know you have a short attention span, but check this out at about 2 minutes in. It might help your understanding of some of the facts.

Its WAY WAY WAY beyond that sort of detail Barkie...
Our UK political myopia and denial is getting really quite serious now.. as Martin Wolf summarised in the FT recently..

As Ive said above its way beyond detail at this point..
So against the background so well summarised by the FT above...
Since there are lots of Brexiteers here .. Lets ask ten simple questions recently (raised by CG) about UK government policy that are still not clear..

1 Will the UK pay its bill to get a free trade deal?
2 Will May agree to a transitional deal?... and will the 27?
3 Will the European court of justice have any role in the deal?
4 Will the UK have to leave the EUs regulatory bodies?
5 What will it cost Britain to safeguard the City of London?
6 Will Britain restrict EU immigration?
7 How will the borders actually work?
8 Will Britain accept EU rules on police cooperation?
9 Does the UK want to be associated with EU foreign policy?
10 Is there a plan B? Clearly NO.

And see what people think..

Theres no negative feeling from Brits to our neighbours only what EU is now ,and where it wants to go

1Will the UK pay its bill to get a free trade deal?
depends how much, 100 bn no way
2 Will May agree to a transitional deal?... and will the 27?
sounds reasonable if necessary
3 Will the European court of justice have any role in the deal?
bye bye eu law thats the point
4 Will the UK have to leave the EUs regulatory bodies?
why not
5 What will it cost Britain to safeguard the City of London?
no idea I suspect its overplayed even by the City and can be overcome
6 Will Britain restrict EU immigration?
without doubt
7 How will the borders actually work?
probably technology
8 Will Britain accept EU rules on police cooperation?
no outside rules ,but we are cooperative
9 Does the UK want to be associated with EU foreign policy?
we will always be associated
10 Is there a plan B? Clearly NO.
impossible

You quote like this as a independent economist view above the likes of those in a opposite camp
thats the problem

You
"So against the background so well summarised by the FT above..."
Lets be frank its just how you see it so then it's well written

Martin Wolf: Why I believe Britain belongs in Europe
Wed 22 June 2016

"In making this decision, rational voters must understand the asymmetry in the decision. As a sovereign country, the UK can change a decision to remain. But it cannot change a decision to exit."

"Both long- and short-term economic effects will fall somewhere between bad and disastrous. Economists on the Leave side have failed to dent the virtual unanimity of expert opinion. The response of the Leave campaign has been to denigrate the notion of expertise. That is silly enough. Far worse, it has not even pretended to have a coherent post-referendum plan."

"Let it choose engagement. Let it choose Europe."

Up until the late 2000s, Wolf was an influential advocate of globalisation

ok too much to answer lets do the major question bearing in mind the following facts

UK have paid the eu 185bn nett in the decades its been a member
and has only ever paid in pretty much
leave date 2019 end of budget cycle 2020

Is the number 100bn to leave fair ?
What number do you think we should accept for a free market essentially we would still be paying for
that carries a positive deficit to the EU

Uncorroborated, unconfirmed, second hand information from a 'leaked' memorandum ... accepted as fact here in crazy town.
