US against the world is what he manage to do. Or The world against US .

Europe with Germany in front has taken the lead for the free world. US is quickly putting them self on the sideline or even in to isolation. We Europeans now put our thrust to Merkel and EU for a better development and future to the world and Europe. We in a way can say thank you to Trump for a stronger unity in Europe and in the world. When that is said. I think the world would have been better of without the need for that. And yes short term I think this will strengthen USD and weaken Euro.

"The veteran GOP strategist resigned in a private meeting with the president on May 18, and Trump accepted immediately, Dubke said, adding that he offered to stay through the president’s first foreign trip to ensure there was a smooth transition as he exits"

Looks like the German manufacturing machine might come under a bit of pressure from its markets. So if no Brexit deal - German cars (to name but one topical area) no longer look so attractive in the UK with a 10-20% import tax on them. Same again in US with 2.5?% duty becoming 10% (or more) not to mention still struggling to overcome problems from lying about emissions. (VAG in particular)

Vastly increased bills for things like Defence, or even simply running the EU and the gargantuan appetite of the Brussels machinery (et al) not to mention all the subsidies given to most of the membership (they aren't going to want to see those diminished) - Lets face it the 3 real funding nations were Germany, UK and France, with UK gone who is going to pick up the slack? So the whole machinery comes under pressure and the biggest earner (Germany) finds important markets harder to access. Yes they will undoubtedly pick up financial sector work/income but is that likely to offset the other difficulties?

Some interesting situations developing to plug into the eco-models over coming weeks...

German carmakers own 265 plants in the US and created 110,000 jobs. Half of those depend on the export of German cars manufactured in the US.

These jobs are basically handed over on a plate to the US, and could be done better and much cheaper in eastern Europe so why the long face ?

It's back to the car issue again, isn't it, as that has to be the biggest EU export to the US?

Despite the tariffs, American cars are still relatively cheap compared to German, yet we see very few on our roads. The EU charge a high tariff basically calling America's bluff to charge the same. They know full well that people would swallow it because they want a German car.

German population is .25% of USA so you would expect a trade deficit. In fact if you look at it closely Germans buy more US goods per capita.

As someone who actually lives in the US, I can tell you this isn't the case. It is well known how poorly Audi and BMWs hold up. After 30k miles, the costs pile up. In the US, we tend to go for Japanese cars. Far more reliable and reasonably priced. And of course, there are all of the US companies. GM, Ford, Tesla, etc.

German cars are very expensive to repair and maintain. This is why you see so many Audis for sale after 3 years.

Here is a quick breakdown of last month's sales in the US - Not one German automobile in the top 20.

I used to work in the auto sales industry, and the number one car with the highest resale value was Honda, followed by Toyota. I once bought a Totoya Tacoma that had over 400,000 miles on it. I had the vehicle on the lot for less then two days before selling it for 2400.00 dollars, I originally bought it at auction for $1100.00.

Also, Merkle the cry baby is out and about making her rounds complaining how they can't rely on the US anymore, because reality is being spotlighted that the US is paying 70% of the NATO budget, while Germany continues to fail to meet it's financial obligations. Hmm hit with the truth and all she can think of is to complain how bad Trump is for actually asking every nation in NATO to pay their fair share.

However, what is rarely added to the discussion is the scope of the U.S. GDP in comparison to other nation states. For the US to spend 3.61% of their massive GDP ($18.5 Trillion) is actually $670,344,000,000 That represents 76.11% of the entire NATO budget.

IMHO..
Three basic misconceptions about The NATO issue.

1. US Military spending supports a GLOBAL capability.
European/NATO spending supports a European Theater capability Thats NATOs mandate.
So any comparison based on US Global spending is entirely spurious.

2. The US maintains a military establishment of 100k personnel in Europe.
Much of this is employed in support of their maintaining their midEast deployment and capability.
EU/NATO maintains 1.8 mio personnel. so US European Defence commitment is only about 5% of overall EU/NATO the ground.

3. There is no "Bill". The EU/NATO GDP expenditures relate to domestic military budgets.
Nothing to do with US. The idea that US is "paying for" Europes defence.. is a ludicrous characterisation of the issue designed IMHO for US political domestic showboating.

As a "consistency of thought experiment..? check out US military deployment in Pacific/SE Asia.
Its about 150k boots-on-the-ground? Thats 50% greater than in Europe?
And then check out Japan and S Koreas military spending as % GDP.

Finally a program to increase the domestic military expenditure of EU/NATO states as % GDP has ALREADY been agreed with US since 2013. Mr Trumps attitude on this and public rebuke of his closest allies is both has weakened the West at a time that we need the opposite. And has caused Europe to reassess the dependability of US as defence allies. Putin must be having hysterics.

The only market implications of all this bla bla I can see is that investment in arms industry stocks may be worth a further look.

You talking nonsense! It is in the NATO mandate that all participating countries have to spend 2% of their GDP. Stop with your erroneous talking points because clearly you have no idea what you are talking about Grandpa! Making false equivalencies with Asian countries and US Military involvement with them has nothing to do with NATO and the mandates set forth for the participating countries in which they have agreed to certain conditions in order to be an inclusive member has clearly shown an unfair and disingenuous attitude on the part of the European countries who have failed to meet their obligations! How come Greece, Estonia, The UK, Poland have managed to meet their financial obligations? Your whole entire argument is bunk! No get on with it and stop trying to make a case with boots on the ground and how many military personnel are deployed in Europe because it is a straw mans argument. There is a lot more that goes into NATO spending then just US military bases, such as counter terrorism, Intelligence data, Cyber security intelligence, Logistics planning, and strategic Comm coordination, just to name a few. I am guessing you never served in the military nor have any idea what is involved when it comes expenditures and budgets allocations for implementation on various security provisions as it relates to fiscal projections? Try again, because clearly you are grasping by eliciting with such false equivalencies! US, as illustrated in the chart above is contributing close to 76% of the entire NATO budget, and the facts are there for you to read! Now actually try reading the actual numbers and you will find that is indeed the case. That is if your obvious bias allows you to be honest for a change!

Its about time the US stops funding the welfare states of Germany and most of the EU who do nothing but complain and leech off of other countries! If it weren't for the US NATO would be nothing!

I had a friend in Seattle who worked for a GM dealership for a good while and the dealership went out of business. After a management buy-out/rescue and an agency for Toyota his own personal sales went up at least 4 fold (I'm not exaggerating, if anything I'm being conservative) and the business made them all quite wealthy very quickly...

I can't figure him out. There has to be something very strange about someone who marries their ex teacher, who looks like their mother and dresses like the proverbial mutton, with a wig and a face like a cat's arse. Meanwhile, I thought Melania looked fantastic. If anyone is abnormal, it isn't Trump!

He was just making a point out of who he respect and who he disrespect, who is the friend who is not. I would say great way to show it to the world. Europe is not crawling for Trump. We like USA . Respect what it has been and what it possible will be again. But not for what it is showing to us and the world now by the person the American people has elected President.

U.S. Trade Deficit by Country: Current Statistics and Issues

China -- $579 billion traded with a $347 billion deficit.
Canada -- $545 billion traded with a $11 billion deficit.
Mexico -- $525 billion traded with a $63 billion deficit.
Japan -- $196 billion traded with a $69 billion deficit.
Germany -- $164 billion traded with a $65 billion deficit.

More than 40 percent of the U.S. trade deficit in goods was with China.

How come Trump does not say anything about China any more at all?
And why Germany?
Maybe Germany should play for him an Arab tune, they can definitely get him to dance to that.

The money that was to be earmarked for the defense was not about payments to the US. Germany and other NATO members do not owe the US money. It was about building capacity and capabilities. Nor must defense mean strictly military resources. If Germany's military spending and spending on refugees were combined, then it would be near its 2% obligation.

{quote} He was just making a point out of who he respect and who he disrespect, who is the friend who is not. I would say great way to show it to the world. Europe is not crawling for Trump. We like USA . Respect what it has been and what it possible will be again. But not for what it is showing to us and the world now by the person the American people has elected President.

I see how that works. Don't agree someone put them on ignore. Nice. What happened to the spirit of debate on this site?

Geez, what the hell is wrong with this place? Trying to make peace and get a CoC!! I think these CoCs are just getting pulled out of a hat now on someone's whim! Talking fluff is OK, but calling a truce with someone is not?!

I'll tell you. It's you. Every time you pop your head out of your hole. (The Rabbit Hole, that is, of course) I don't like you either, your views or any of the gang you lead. So you won, and Forex Factory lost. Personally, I don't care.

Why don't you just put me on ignore, as per the rules of FF, if you dislike me so much?

What a pile of crap. Yellow belly complainers getting upset over comments on the internet. You're all the same, can give but cry like a baby when there is a return volley

{quote} I can't figure him out. There has to be something very strange about someone who marries their ex teacher, who looks like their mother and dresses like the proverbial mutton, with a wig and a face like a cat's arse. Meanwhile, I thought Melania looked fantastic. If anyone is abnormal, it isn't Trump!

Haha! Why did my last post get hidden? Because I agreed to a truce? What... you prefer everyone to argue venomously?

So a post gets hidden both when it's too contentious... and when it's too friendly. Yeah. That makes complete sense.

Pick a lane, Forex Factory! I know traders are supposed to take emotion out of the equation, but this is just getting a bit ridiculous now.

Chill Marty..
Think of FF as a Bar? Yeah?
Its a business. Money made from selling booze?
but in this case from Generating Traffic. Great bar.. great service but Controversy also generates traffic?
So they got to have House Rules, to stop things getting out of hand? People being people?

So from time to time a row breaks out..?
You think they GAF whos right or wrong, or who started it?
They just whack anyone who looks like a troublemaker.
Mostly right.. but sometimes wrong.
Ever try to reason with a Bouncer?

Now Ya Got It?
LoL.
